Public university · founded 2005 · Chang Phueak, Mueang Chiang Mai
Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna was established on 18 January 2005 under the Rajamangala Universities of Technology Act, carved out of the older Vocational Education and Technology College network. Its own history page is unusually specific about its shape: the university consists of six areas plus one institute -- Chiang Rai, Tak, Nan, Phitsanulok, Phayap (Chiang Mai), Lampang, and the Agricultural Technology Research Institute. Its registered address is 128 Huai Kaeo Road, Tambon Chang Phueak, Mueang Chiang Mai, so this is a six-province university of the upper North headquartered in Chiang Mai, not a branch of one based elsewhere.
RMUTL describes its purpose as producing bandit nak patibat -- hands-on graduates -- through work-integrated learning, with science and technology as the base. Four faculties and one college run across the areas: Business Administration and Liberal Arts, Sciences and Agricultural Technology, Engineering, Arts and Architecture, and the College of Integrated Science and Technology. Its published programme codes cover the vocational certificate (ปวช.), the advanced vocational certificate (ปวส.), bachelor's and master's degrees, so a family already in Thailand can compare a technical route from upper-secondary level through to postgraduate study inside one institution.
