Overview
Hua Hin International School opened in August 2015 with 75 students and has grown into the town's largest and best-known international school, set on a campus at Hin Lek Fai in the hills near Black Mountain, with views over lakes and mountain ranges. HHIS follows the National Curriculum for England from the Early Years through Year 9, moves into the Cambridge IGCSE programme for Years 10 and 11, and -- since launching the pathway in August 2020 -- offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 12 and 13 as an authorised IB World School. Its first IB cohort graduated in 2022, and it joined the Council of International Schools in 2024. Today the school publishes 430+ students, 63 teachers and more than 30 nationalities — roughly six times its founding roll. HHIS carries an unusually broad set of recognitions for a school of its size: full IB World School authorisation for the Diploma Programme; authorisation as a Cambridge IGCSE examination centre for Years 10 and 11; Thai Ministry of Education licensing with ONESQA accreditation; the International Schools Quality Mark from the Education Development Trust; membership of the Council of International Schools; membership of FOBISIA and of the International Schools Association of Thailand, which links accredited international schools to the Ministry’s Office of the Private Education Commission; partner-school status with St Mary’s University, Twickenham supporting its IQTS international teaching qualification; and status as a Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award centre, open to students from 14.
One honest discrepancy. The school’s accreditations page states the EDT International Schools Quality Mark was awarded in 2023; the timeline on its own homepage places the same award in 2018. We report both rather than pick one, and suggest you ask the school which is current if the accreditation date matters to you. Separately, we previously stated that HHIS joined FOBISIA in 2021 — the membership is confirmed by the school, but we could not verify that year from any primary source and have removed the date rather than keep repeating it.
The bus network — and why it changes where you can live
Hua Hin has no rail, metro or tram usable for a school commute, so for most families here the school run dictates the neighbourhood. HHIS is the exception, because it is the only school in town publishing a proper door-to-door network. The service is run by the Metro Bus Company — five buses at the time of writing, routed from Petchaburi province in the north down to Sam Roi Yot district in the south. Every vehicle carries seat belts, CCTV, real-time GPS tracking and air purifiers, with a trained driver and a bus monitor on board, and all are registered with the Department of Land Transport. Parents get an app notification (“Spot the Move”) when a child reaches school or home.
That catchment is the single most useful fact on this page for anyone choosing a home. It means Cha-Am to the north and Pranburi, Pak Nam Pran and Sam Roi Yot to the south are genuinely live options for an HHIS family — quieter and cheaper than Hin Lek Fai or Hua Hin Hills, without a parent driving two hours a day. Routes, timings and seat availability change year to year, so confirm yours with the school office before you commit to a lease that far out.
