Kanchanaburi Rajabhat University traces back to 29 September 1973, when it was established as Kanchanaburi Teachers College, opening to its first academic year in 1976. The Rajabhat Institute Act of 24 January 1995 upgraded it to Kanchanaburi Rajabhat Institute, and the Rajabhat University Act of 2004 upgraded it again to full university status on 15 June 2004. The campus sits in Phu Phra Village, Nong Bua Subdistrict, Mueang Kanchanaburi District.
KRU now offers 34 degree programmes across faculties of Education (its oldest faculty), Management Science, Industrial Technology (its newest faculty, grown out of the Faculty of Science and Technology), Science and Technology, Music, Law, and Digital Content Design under Humanities and Social Science -- a broad, teacher-training-rooted university serving Kanchanaburi province.
