Koh Phangan's biggest and busiest weekly market — every Saturday evening on Thong Sala's old main street, a short walk from the pier.
Every Saturday, Thong Sala's old main road — known locally as "Chinese Street" for its history as one of the town's original commercial roads, and still home to the post office — closes to traffic and fills with stalls. It is the single best-known and best-attended market on Koh Phangan, drawing residents and visitors from across the island rather than staying a purely local affair, and is the market most guides mean when they simply say "the Walking Street." BAANLYY could not independently corroborate claims that a second weekday version of this same street market exists, so we report Saturday only.
Thai street food & BBQ seafoodHandmade crafts & jewelleryClothing & souvenirsFresh fruit shakes & dessertsLive music
Expect Thai classics — pad Thai, spicy salads (som tam), grilled fish and squid — alongside Thai cakes, vegan treats and fresh tropical fruit shakes. Stallholders also sell clothing, handmade crafts, jewellery and souvenirs, with live music adding to the atmosphere most weeks.
The market runs along Chinese Street in Thong Sala, an easy walk from Thong Sala Pier — the same town where the island's banks, pharmacies and ferry connections to Koh Samui and Surat Thani are based. It's a natural stop for anyone staying in or near Thong Sala, and a short scooter or songthaew ride from Srithanu, Haad Rin or Chaloklum.
The market runs Saturdays only, roughly 4pm to 10pm, busiest from about 7-9pm. Entry is free; vendors mostly expect cash (Thai baht). BAANLYY does not operate or receive payment from this market — always confirm current timing locally, as island markets occasionally shift for holidays or weather.
Market facts are cross-checked across multiple independent Koh Phangan travel guides. BAANLYY is not affiliated with this market and takes no paid placement in this content — confirm current days, hours and vendors locally before visiting.
