Krabi College of Agriculture and Technology at a glance

Krabi College of Agriculture and Technology was established in 1979 as Krabi Agricultural College, under a Ministry of Education policy of putting an agricultural college in every province and timed to the government's designation of 1979 as the Year of the Farmer. Krabi province sourced the land: a public tract at Thung Khuan Yao, Moo 3 and Moo 6, Huai Yung Subdistrict, Nuea Khlong District. The college's own site puts the site at 1,708 rai 1 ngan 47 square wah -- a working farm campus rather than a town-centre one, and it publishes its contact address as 100 Moo 6, Huai Yung, Nuea Khlong, Krabi 81130.

It stands between kilometre 6 and kilometre 10 on the Nuea Khlong-Khao Phanom road, about 8 km from Nuea Khlong district town and about 25 km from Krabi Town. Teaching began in the 1982 academic year with the vocational certificate (ปวช.) in agriculture and a starting roll of ten teachers, five support staff and 120 students; the higher vocational certificate (ปวส.) followed in 1985 in two majors, Plant Science and Animal Science, and short mobile farmer-training courses were added in 1984, running about 700 farmers a budget year in three-to-five-day cohorts.

Its teaching departments today are broader than the name suggests: Plant Science, Animal Science, Fisheries, Agro-Industry, Agricultural Mechanics, Business Administration and General Education. Two historic changes explain part of that. In 1995 the Ministry of Education established a community college inside the campus -- Huai Yung Community College -- teaching industrial trades and business administration at certificate and higher-certificate level. Then on 26 September 1996 the Ministry renamed every agricultural college in the country to "College of Agriculture and Technology", which is how the Krabi college took its present name and the abbreviation K-CAT.

On affiliation, we publish the disagreement rather than picking a winner, because the disagreement is the finding. The college's OWN institution page says it belongs to สถาบันการอาชีวศึกษาภาคใต้ 5 -- Institute of Vocational Education: Southern Region 5. The institute that publishes Krabi Technical College's degrees is Southern Region 2, and Southern Region 2's own member list does not include the agricultural college. Third-party listings file K-CAT instead under the Agricultural Vocational Education Institute (Southern Region), the separate national institute for agricultural colleges. We could not open a first-party site for a "Southern Region 5" institute, and we have not found a published order settling which body K-CAT now sits under. What is not in doubt: the college's own published programmes are ปวช. and ปวส., not a bachelor's degree, and its provincial family is the Krabi vocational group under Southern Region 2, which both its own footer and Krabi Polytechnic College's footer print.

What you can leave here with

No bachelor's degree is taught on this site. What it awards is set out below — and "vocational college" does not by itself mean "no degree" in Thailand, which is why every entry on this hub now states its awards rather than inheriting a rule.
