The International Schools Database records its curriculum as 'American, Christian'. This is a defining feature of the school, not an incidental one, and families should weigh it deliberately — the secular alternative in the city is UDIS.

Boarding — read this carefully

A day school. ICSUD publishes no boarding or homestay provision. Families moving to Udon Thani for this school need to live within a workable drive of Na Kha, which is roughly 15 km north of the city centre.

Getting there

No urban rail exists in Udon Thani, so this is a road commute — and it is the longest school run in the city. The campus is roughly 15 km north of the centre on Mittraphap Road, which is the main highway north toward Nong Khai and the Lao border. That position cuts both ways: it is a real daily drive from the city centre and Nong Prajak, but it puts the campus about 46 km from the Nong Khai Friendship Bridge, which makes the school unusually reachable for families based toward Nong Khai or commuting from Vientiane. Confirm the school's own transport routes before choosing an area.

Cohort size & what it means

ICSUD opened in September 2020, so its upper year groups are the newest in the city. Ask how many students are in the specific grade your child would join and whether the AP subjects your child wants are running this year — AP availability is driven by enrolment, and the school delivers some AP courses online as well as on-site.

Who it suits

Families who specifically want an American curriculum and a US high school diploma, families expecting to move to or back into the US system, and families who actively want a Christian school. Also the most practical international option for anyone based toward Nong Khai or crossing from Vientiane.

What we could not confirm

We publish what the school itself states and say so plainly where sources disagree or where a fact could not be verified. These are open questions, not criticisms of the school.

• The school's Christian character was absent from BAANLYY's own listing until this revision. It is stated plainly on the school's own materials and on its verified directory record, and it is the single most decision-relevant difference between the city's two international schools.
• Third-party directories quote 2026/27 fee bands for ICSUD materially above the figures BAANLYY previously published. We no longer publish per-school fees for any city — request the current schedule from the school in writing.

Ask before you enrol

• Ask whether your child's exact year group is running this academic year, and how many children are in it. In a city this size a stage can be published without a class actually being staffed and filled.
• Ask whether your child would be taught in a composite (mixed-year) class, and which years are combined. UDIS publishes a composite-class policy; this is normal practice at small schools and not a defect, but it changes the school day and you should know before you enrol.
• If you are considering boarding, ask precisely what is on offer. No school in Udon Thani currently operates its own boarding house — what exists is homestay placement with a third-party partner. Ask who is responsible for safeguarding, what the arrangement costs and who supervises it.
• Ask for the current fee schedule in writing, direct from the school. Third-party directories quote Udon Thani fees that differ materially from the schools' own published figures.
• Drive the route at 07:00 on a weekday before you sign a lease. The Mittraphap Road corridor is the city's main artery and the drive to a campus north of town is not the drive the map estimates.
• Ask about school transport routes and whether they reach the area you are considering — Udon Thani has no urban rail, so the bus route is the catchment.
