Religious character

Secular. UDIS publishes no statement of faith, no chapel or worship requirement and no religious studies graduation condition — it is the only secular international school in Udon Thani, and the alternative is explicitly Christian.

Boarding — read this carefully

UDIS does not run a boarding house. What the school offers, in its own words, is homestay placement — it maintains connections with homestay providers in Udon Thani and names Hug Udon as its preferred partner. The school states separately that it has plans to build its own boarding facility 'in the near future', which means it does not have one now. Families relocating from Nong Khai, Vientiane or elsewhere in Isaan on the strength of a directory entry reading 'boarding: yes' should read that distinction carefully and ask who carries safeguarding responsibility in a homestay.

Getting there

Udon Thani has no urban rail — no BTS, MRT, tram or light rail — so every school run here is by road. The campus sits on Mittrapab (Mittraphap) Road, the city's main north–south artery, about 10 minutes north of the centre. UDIS publishes a transportation page; confirm which areas its routes actually reach before committing to a neighbourhood, because in a city with no rail the bus route is the catchment. Udon Thani International Airport is on the same side of town, which makes the corridor convenient for families who travel often.

Cohort size & what it means

UDIS publishes a composite-class policy — the practice of teaching two year groups together where cohort numbers are small. This is ordinary and well-managed practice at schools of this size rather than a shortcoming, but it is a real feature of the school day and one most families only discover after enrolling. The DP is young: the first Year 12 class started in August 2024 and the first cohort graduated in 2026, so subject availability at Diploma level depends on who else has chosen a subject that year. Ask which DP subjects are actually running.

Who it suits

Families who want an internationally portable qualification, a secular school, or provision for a child under 4 — UDIS is the only international school in the city that takes children from age 2, and the only one offering the IB. Also the natural choice for families expecting to move on to another country or another IB school.

What we could not confirm

We publish what the school itself states and say so plainly where sources disagree or where a fact could not be verified. These are open questions, not criticisms of the school.

• The school's own site publishes its street address two ways — the site-wide footer gives 222 Moo 2 Mittrapab Road, while the contact block on the Diploma Programme page gives 222/2 Moo 2. A third-party directory lists 222 Moo 7. We publish the footer version and flag the difference rather than pick silently.
• The International Schools Database entry for this school still describes it as 'a candidate school for the MYP' and refers to it throughout as 'UTIS'. Both are out of date: the school is authorised for the MYP and the DP, and its own logo, domain (udis.ac.th) and email use UDIS. Directory copy on this school lags its actual status by years.
• UDIS advertises scholarships for Year 11 and Year 12 for 2026/2027. Terms, deadlines and how many are awarded are not published in detail — ask the school directly.

Ask before you enrol

• Ask whether your child's exact year group is running this academic year, and how many children are in it. In a city this size a stage can be published without a class actually being staffed and filled.
• Ask whether your child would be taught in a composite (mixed-year) class, and which years are combined. UDIS publishes a composite-class policy; this is normal practice at small schools and not a defect, but it changes the school day and you should know before you enrol.
• If you are considering boarding, ask precisely what is on offer. No school in Udon Thani currently operates its own boarding house — what exists is homestay placement with a third-party partner. Ask who is responsible for safeguarding, what the arrangement costs and who supervises it.
• Ask for the current fee schedule in writing, direct from the school. Third-party directories quote Udon Thani fees that differ materially from the schools' own published figures.
• Drive the route at 07:00 on a weekday before you sign a lease. The Mittraphap Road corridor is the city's main artery and the drive to a campus north of town is not the drive the map estimates.
• Ask about school transport routes and whether they reach the area you are considering — Udon Thani has no urban rail, so the bus route is the catchment.
