American + IB Diploma · Nichada Thani, Pak Kret
Founded in 1951 on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy to serve Bangkok's American diplomatic community, ISB has grown into one of the region's most established international schools. It runs a U.S.-based curriculum with AP and IB Diploma pathways on a large suburban campus inside the gated Nichada Thani community north of the city, known for its sports and facilities.
Address: 39/7 Soi Nichada Thani, Samakee Road, Pak Kret, Nonthaburi
A large suburban campus inside the gated Nichada Thani estate — playing fields, aquatic and arts facilities on a scale central campuses cannot match.
Getting there: No rail link. ISB sits outside Bangkok proper in Nonthaburi province; the campus is reached by road, and the near-universal answer is to live inside or beside Nichada Thani and walk or cycle in. Commuting daily from central Bangkok is a genuinely hard school run.
Bangkok school runs are decided by traffic, not distance. Cross-check with the Bangkok getting-around guide and the BTS and MRT network before you commit to a neighbourhood.
How a child progresses through the school, stage by stage:
Accreditation is the closest thing to an objective quality signal in international schooling — it means an outside body has inspected governance, teaching and safeguarding. BAANLYY does not rank schools, so this is what International School Bangkok (ISB) and its accrediting bodies publish, not our verdict:
Boarding: Day school — no boarding.
Scale: Commonly reported at around 1,800 students from 60-plus nationalities, with a long-standing American and diplomatic core. Roll and nationality figures move every year and schools report them differently — treat these as indicative and ask the admissions office for the current numbers.
Families on a US-curriculum track, diplomatic and corporate postings, and anyone who wants suburban space, a walkable gated community and serious sports facilities more than they want city life.
This is our editorial read for relocation planning, not a ranking or a recommendation — and no school pays to appear on BAANLYY. Visit shortlisted campuses before you decide.
ISB is the clearest case in Bangkok of the school choosing the neighbourhood. Nichada Thani itself is the answer for most families; the wider Nonthaburi market is the fallback.
Check the school's bus catchment before you sign — a home that looks close on a map can sit outside the route, and a home on the route can be twenty minutes further away and still be the easier morning.
BAANLYY deliberately does not publish per-school tuition figures: they change annually, schools publish their own current schedules, and a stale number is worse than none. Take this list to the admissions office:
