Buddhist College of a State-Supervised University (degree-awarding) · founded 1999 · Mueang Buriram
Buriram Buddhist College is the Buriram arm of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU), one of Thailand's two Buddhist universities and a state-supervised institution. Per the college's own account, the Buriram Sangha resolved in 1999 to have the Bachelor of Arts in Buddhist Studies programme extended from MCU's Surin Campus and taught locally at Wat Phra Phutthabat Khao Kradong; that extension classroom is the origin of today's college. It sits at 281 Moo 13, Khao Kradong, on the Buriram-Prakhon Chai road in Sa Met subdistrict, Mueang Buriram.
It is a genuine degree-awarding presence and not a monastic-only one. Alongside the Bachelor of Arts in Buddhist Studies (พธ.บ.), it runs four-year Bachelor of Education (ค.บ.) programmes in English Teaching, Thai Teaching and Social Studies -- teaching qualifications open to lay students, which is the part most residents assume a 'Buddhist college' does not offer. The exact year the extension classroom was elevated to a college in its own right was not confirmed by this worker.
