Sail Rock Divers, H2O Original, The Dive Inn and Plongée Koh Phangan Diving — the island's real dive centers, with pricing, the Sail Rock dive site and PADI vs. SSI explained.
Koh Phangan is best known for the monthly Full Moon Party and, more recently, its Srithanu-Haad Salad yoga and wellness scene — but it also has a genuine, longstanding diving scene of its own, anchored by Sail Rock (Hin Bai), a submerged pinnacle roughly midway to Koh Tao and one of the Gulf of Thailand's best-rated dive sites. Three of the four operators profiled here run out of Chaloklum or neighbouring Wok Tum on the north coast; the fourth, H2O Original, is based in Thong Nai Pan on the northeast coast. For getting around the island and where to base yourself, see the Koh Phangan areas guide and island hopping guide.

Since 2007, Sail Rock Divers has been Koh Phangan's most established dive operator and the island's first and only PADI 5-Star Career Development Center, recognised by PADI with Outstanding Contribution awards for both instructor development and diver education. It runs daily trips on its own private dive boat to Sail Rock, the Gulf of Thailand's best-known dive site (and the center's namesake), as well as to Koh Tao and Ang Thong National Marine Park, and operates an on-site training pool, air-con classrooms, bungalows and dorm rooms for its Divemaster and Instructor Development Course (IDC) trainees.
Best for: Divers who want the island's most established operator, professional-level (Divemaster/Instructor) training, or on-site accommodation while training.
Thong Nai Pan — 7/30 Moo 5, Koh Phangan, Surat Thani 84280 · PADI courses & fun dives — contact for current rates
A PADI 5-Star Center that has operated out of Thong Nai Pan, on the island's quieter northeast coast, since 2003. H2O Original runs the island's only dedicated speedboat dive service and is the partnered dive operator for several of Koh Phangan's higher-end resorts, including Santhiya, Anantara Rasananda, Buri Rasa and Panviman.
Best for: Divers staying on the northeast coast (Thong Nai Pan) who want resort-linked pickup and a faster boat than the Chaloklum-based operators.
Chaloklum — 371 Moo 7 Chaloklum Village, Koh Phangan, Surat Thani 84280 · SSI Open Water course THB 12,900 · Sail Rock trip (certified) THB 3,100 · Try Diving THB 4,100
Established in 2002, The Dive Inn is Koh Phangan's SSI-affiliated center (rather than PADI), running small dive groups capped at four divers per instructor with daily trips to Sail Rock and the sites around the island. Its multilingual instructor team covers Thai, English, German, French, Spanish and Finnish, and — unusually for the island — it publishes its course and trip pricing openly online.
Best for: Certified divers or first-timers who want a small-group SSI center with transparent, published pricing.
Wok Tum — 38/7 Moo 4, Koh Phangan, Surat Thani 84280 · PADI courses & fun dives — contact for current rates
Koh Phangan's newest dive center, established in 2019, built around a 5-meter-deep saltwater training pool — the deepest on the island — with three practice levels for skills and simulated-ascent training. PKPD runs its own dedicated filling station (a 300-liter/minute Nardi Pacific 30 compressor, Nitrox-capable to 40%), uses DIN-only tank valves, and is one of the few centers on the island fully set up to support sidemount divers.
Best for: New divers who want deeper, more realistic pool training before their first open-water dives, or sidemount/technical divers who need DIN-valve support.

Three of the four operators profiled here — Sail Rock Divers, The Dive Inn and Plongée Koh Phangan Diving — are based on or near Koh Phangan's north coast, in Chaloklum or the neighbouring village of Wok Tum, the main jump-off point for Gulf of Thailand dive trips. H2O Original is the exception, based in Thong Nai Pan on the island's quieter northeast coast.
Sail Rock (Hin Bai) is a submerged granite pinnacle in open water roughly midway between Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, widely rated one of the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand for its vertical swim-through chimney and periodic whale shark sightings. It's the signature site for nearly every operator on this list, including Sail Rock Divers, which takes its name from it.
Not for recreational diving. Sail Rock Divers, H2O Original and Plongée Koh Phangan Diving are PADI centers, while The Dive Inn is an SSI center. Certifications from both agencies are internationally recognised and accepted by dive operators and dive shops worldwide.
Based on The Dive Inn's published Koh Phangan price list, a full SSI Open Water certification course runs about THB 12,900, a one-day Sail Rock trip for already-certified divers is about THB 3,100, and a no-experience-needed Try Diving taster is about THB 4,100. Other operators set their own rates and mostly quote on request — confirm current pricing directly before booking.
Koh Tao, a short ferry away, remains Thailand's largest dive-training hub by volume, with dozens of schools and the most competitive course pricing in the country. Koh Phangan has a smaller but genuine scene — four established operators rather than dozens — which suits divers already on the island for its wellness, yoga or Full Moon Party scene who want to add diving without a separate trip to Koh Tao.
