Lampang School

British International School of Northern Thailand (BISN).

British national curriculum (maths, English, science core) at primary; Montessori method at kindergarten. Advertised secondary provision is unconfirmed · A riverside site just outside Lampang town

The British International School of Northern Thailand (BISN), previously Nawattaphume International School (NIS), opened in May 2003 as Lampang's first international school, on a spacious riverside site just outside the town centre. Directory listings describe a Montessori-method kindergarten feeding a primary department on the British national curriculum with a core focus on maths, English and science, and variously advertise provision continuing to secondary level. That secondary claim is the problem: it is dated, it is inconsistent between directories, and no source we can reach carries it in the school's own words. A Bangkok Post trade-press interview with the school's own deputy director described BISN as having reached a mature and, by his own account, declining stage of its business cycle -- which is the reason he separately founded St. Helier-Brelade International School in Lampang as a newer alternative under the same leadership. A family should read that as what it is: the leadership's own published assessment of the older school. BISN may well be operating perfectly normally, and we make no claim that it is not. But of Lampang's three international schools this is the one where independent verification is thinnest, and it is the one where you should insist on seeing the current year groups, class sizes and teaching staff in person before enrolling.

Where this school starts, and where it stops

Youngest intake: Nursery / kindergarten, on a Montessori method, per directory listings. Not confirmed with the school.

Oldest year taught: UNRESOLVED, and this is the honest headline. Directory copy variously advertises provision "through to secondary level" and as far as Grade 12. We have never seen either confirmed by the school, and the copy is dated. Do not plan a teenager's schooling around BISN without written confirmation of the current top year group.

What a leaver holds: Unknown. No IGCSE, A-Level or other examination entry has been evidenced. If a family is told the school teaches to 18, the follow-up question is which examination board and how many candidates it entered last year.

Evidence status: WEAKEST OF THE THREE. BISN has no conventional official website -- its public presence is a Facebook page plus third-party directory listings. We could not verify current enrolment, staffing, grade range or even continued operation as of 2026-08-20.
