The Nonthaburi Centre is the university's only campus inside Bangkok's inner ring, and it is the oldest teaching site in this registry. Its own history page dates the campus to 1975, when the Department of Vocational Education merged two schools standing about a kilometre apart on Nonthaburi 1 Road -- the Nonthaburi Mechanical Trade School and the Nonthaburi Trade School -- into Nonthaburi Technical College. The college was transferred to the College of Technology and Vocational Education in 1977, renamed under the royally granted name Rajamangala Institute of Technology in 1988, became simply the Nonthaburi Campus on 15 September 1989, and began teaching to bachelor's level from that point.

In 2005 that campus was folded into a new university: Rajamangala University of Technology Suvarnabhumi was established on 18 January 2005 as one of nine Rajamangala universities, formed by merging four campuses -- Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hantra, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Wasukri, Nonthaburi and Suphan Buri -- with the president's office at Hantra in Ayutthaya. The Nonthaburi Centre still occupies two separate plots on Nonthaburi Road, the north zone opposite Wat Chaeng Siri Samphan in Bang Kraso and the south zone beside Wat Thai Mueang in Suan Yai, and remains the university's Bangkok-metro teaching base.
