The seven, by awarding authority

Three ministries, one province

Nonthaburi's higher education does not sit in one register, and that is the single most useful thing to know before you plan a move around a campus. Three of the seven are what most lists mean by a university: Sukhothai Thammathirat, the open university whose Chaeng Watthana campus in Pak Kret is one of the largest in Thailand by enrolment; Panyapiwat Institute of Management, CP All's corporate university a short way along the same road; and Rajapruk University in Bang Kruai, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya.

A fourth is a campus rather than a university in its own right. Rajamangala University of Technology Suvarnabhumi is seated at Hantra in Ayutthaya, but its Nonthaburi Centre on Nonthaburi Road is the oldest teaching site of the four it was built from — a 1975 merger of two local trade schools that became Nonthaburi Technical College, taught to bachelor's level from 1989, and was folded into the new university on 18 January 2005. Search for “universities in Nonthaburi” by name and it will not appear, because the name it carries is Ayutthaya's.

The last three are invisible for a different reason: they answer to the Ministry of Public Health. Praboromarajchanok Institute — the specialised higher-education institution that trains most of Thailand's public-sector nurses and health workers, given its own legal personality by the Praboromarajchanok Institute Act B.E. 2562 (2019) — has its head office in the Ministry of Public Health compound on Tiwanon Road, in Mueang Nonthaburi. Two of its constituent colleges are here too: Boromarajonani College of Nursing Nonthaburi, on two Talat Khwan campuses, and the Kanchanabhishek Institute of Medical and Public Health Technology, out at Ratsadon Niyom in Sai Noi. For a household with a nurse, radiographer or public-health worker in it, that is a genuinely relevant fact about this province and it appears in no ordinary university list.

Vocational colleges in Nonthaburi

Below the degree, the province's state technical college is Nonthaburi Technical College at 116 Moo 6, Ratsadon Niyom, Sai Noi — a different institution from the historic college of the same name on Nonthaburi 1 Road, which became the university campus described above. Its own site footer publishes the province's private vocational colleges, and that list is reproduced here rather than assembled by us. Note this is what the state college itself publishes; we do not present it as the complete provincial register.

• Nonthaburi Technical College (วิทยาลัยเทคนิคนนทบุรี) — State, 116 Moo 6, Ratsadon Niyom, Sai Noi. The province's state technical college, under the Office of the Vocational Education Commission. Its published departments are automotive, electrical power, electronics, machine-shop work, basic technique, metal welding, business computing, accounting, retail business and general studies.
