Read this first: this is a Thai school, not an international school
Several directories list ACU among “international schools in Ubon Ratchathani”. It is not one. ACU is a Thai private school operating under the Saint Gabriel Foundation of Thailand and the Thai Ministry of Education, teaching the Thai national curriculum with English-medium programme streams inside it. That means the school year, the assessment structure, the language of administration and the leaving qualification are Thai, and the majority of the student body is Thai. For many relocating families that is a perfectly good outcome — it is the route most long-term foreign residents of provincial Thailand actually take, and it costs a fraction of an international school. But it is a different product from what the word “international” implies, and choosing it by accident is how a family ends up with a child who cannot follow lessons.
We include ACU here because of a hard fact about this province: outside UAIMS, there is no full international school in Ubon Ratchathani at all. The other three options are two early years settings that stop at around age five or six and a state secondary programme that starts at Year 7. A family arriving with a seven-year-old and one international school on the shortlist deserves to know what the real alternative looks like.
