Two or three international schools side by side: curriculum, area, age range and founding year.
Try it free →A full Thai state network across eight districts, five post-secondary institutions rather than the two we used to list, four bodies that award a degree here — and no international-curriculum school anywhere in the province.
The one-line version: Uthai Thani has a working Thai state school system, five post-secondary institutions, four bodies awarding degrees in the province — and no international-curriculum school. If your children need an international curriculum, this province cannot supply it and the nearest alternatives are outside it. If they are pre-school, bilingual and heading for the Thai system, or grown, the rest of this hub applies to you.
| Institution | Type | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| State schools | Across all eight districts | The standard Thai state network — primary schools in the subdistricts and secondary schools in the district towns — administered under the Ministry of Education. Teaching is in Thai. |
| Ramkhamhaeng University — regional campus | Degrees, in the province | Uthai Thani is one of Ramkhamhaeng University's 23 Regional Campuses in Honor of His Majesty The King, and it is named as such on the university's own central register, filed under Northern Thailand alongside Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phetchabun, Phrae and Sukhothai. RU has run the regional-campus network since 1995; it teaches at undergraduate and graduate level by distance, and Uthai Thani is also one of RU's 41 regional examination centres. The campus keeps a site at uthai.ru.ac.th, which returned an empty page to us, so we name the campus but do not publish its address or a subject list we have not read. |
| MCU — Uthai Thani Buddhist College | Bachelor's and master's, at Nong Chang | Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University's Uthai Thani Buddhist College, at 114 Moo 1, tambon Nong Suang, Nong Chang district 61110, telephone 056-531120. Its own admissions register publishes three bachelor's degrees — Buddhist Management, Political Science (weekday and Saturday–Sunday intakes) and a Bachelor of Education in Social Studies — a Master of Political Science, and one-year certificates in Sangha administration and local administration. Its director is Phra Ratcha Uthai Sophon, Dr., who is also the provincial ecclesiastical governor and abbot of Wat Nong Khun Chat. |
| Uthai Thani Technical College | Vocational plus a bachelor's, in the town | At 58 Moo 2, Wongsa Road, tambon Uthai Mai, Mueang Uthai Thani, raised to technical-college status in 1981. Its own curriculum register lists ten vocational-certificate trades, nine higher-diploma programmes and a Bachelor of Technology on the practice track in Automotive Technology and Electronics Technology — each with a staffed department of its own. The degree is conferred by the Institute of Vocational Education: Northern Region 4 in Nakhon Sawan, which names both Uthai Thani majors on its own site. |
| Uthai Thani Polytechnic College | Vocational and short courses, in the town | At 45 Moo 3, tambon Nam Suem, Mueang Uthai Thani 61000, telephone 056 970097. Departments in food and nutrition, information technology, accounting, electrical trades and automotive. It is the third of the three state vocational colleges the provincial vocational education office lists, and it was missing from this page until September 2026. |
| Uthai Thani College of Agriculture and Technology | Vocational, 8 km out at Nong Kae | At 27 Moo 5, tambon Nong Kae, Mueang Uthai Thani, about 8 km from the town on 593 rai. Approved in 1979 as one of ten new agricultural colleges, first intake June 1981, higher diplomas from 1984. Departments in animal science, plant science, agro-industry, agricultural machinery and business administration. Its own site carries a bachelor's heading with no programme published under it, so we do not claim one. |
| Uthai Thani Community College | Associate degrees, in Ban Rai | At 7 Moo 2, Huai Haeng subdistrict, Ban Rai district, postcode 61140. It was converted from Ban Rai Vocational College on 22 December 2004 to become an institution under the Institute of Community Colleges, awarding associate-degree and vocational programmes. It is the one post-secondary institution in the province that is not in the capital district. |
| International-curriculum school | None identified | We could not identify an IB, Cambridge or other international-curriculum school anywhere in Uthai Thani province. For a family that needs one, this is decisive: the nearest options are outside the province. |
Until September 2026 this page answered the question “is there a university in Uthai Thani?” and stopped. That was the wrong question, and it produced a wrong answer that we then repeated in the page title, the hero, the institution table, two of the answers below, the expat-community guide and the cost-of-living guide. The right question is what awards a degree here, and four bodies do.
| Awarding body | What and where | What it means in practice |
|---|---|---|
| Ramkhamhaeng University | Regional campus, undergraduate and graduate | The conventional university route, and the reason the flat claim that this province has no university was wrong. RU's regional-campus model is open-admission distance learning with local support and local examinations, which is a real degree from a real university and a different student experience from a residential campus. |
| Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University | Three bachelor's and one master's, at Nong Chang | A Buddhist university, and its Uthai Thani Buddhist College is a full constituent college rather than an outreach unit. Its Political Science and Social Studies degrees are open beyond the monastic community, and the Saturday–Sunday intake tells you who the college is actually built for: people already working in the province. |
| Institute of Vocational Education: Northern Region 4 | Bachelor of Technology, taught in the town | The awarding body sits in Nakhon Sawan; the teaching happens at Uthai Thani Technical College on Wongsa Road. Two continuing majors — automotive and electronics technology — for holders of a higher vocational diploma. This is the shortest walk to a degree anyone in the capital district has. |
| Institute of Community Colleges | Associate degrees only, at Ban Rai | Uthai Thani Community College awards below bachelor's level. We list it here so the distinction is explicit rather than implied: it is a degree-awarding institution, but not a bachelor's-awarding one. |
| Option | Practicality | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Thai state schooling | The default, and it works | For a bilingual family or a child who will grow up in Thailand, the local state school is a genuine option and by far the most integrated one. Expect Thai-language instruction and a school community that is entirely local. |
| Bilingual or English programme | Ask locally, do not assume | Some Thai provincial schools run English Programme streams. We could not verify a specific EP stream in Uthai Thani from a source we would publish, so treat this as a question to ask at the school gate rather than a feature to count on. |
| Commuting to Nakhon Sawan | About an hour each way | Nakhon Sawan is the nearest full-size city with a broader school market. An hour each way on provincial road is a real school run and, done twice a day, a decisive constraint for most families. |
| Boarding elsewhere in Thailand | The usual fallback | For families committed to an international curriculum, boarding in Bangkok or Chiang Mai is the honest alternative to relocating. It is a very different family arrangement and should be decided before the move, not after. |
| Homeschooling | Legal in Thailand, administratively involved | Thailand permits home education under a registration process with the local education area office. It is a workable route in a province with limited choice, and it is paperwork — start it early. |
It is worth joining these two dots, because it explains something about the province that neither fact explains alone. In most Thai provinces a residential university is what creates a rental market: it concentrates thousands of people who need a room for a year at a time, developers build low-rise blocks for them, portals list those blocks, and foreign residents benefit from the overflow. Uthai Thani has degree teaching but not that shape of it. Ramkhamhaeng teaches here by distance with local examinations; MCU’s Buddhist college sits in Nong Chang district and runs a Saturday–Sunday intake for people already working; the technical college’s Bachelor of Technology is a continuing programme for holders of a higher vocational diploma; and the community college, out at Ban Rai, awards below bachelor’s level. Hardly any of that population moves house to study. So the mechanism that produces browsable apartments in Phitsanulok or Nakhon Sawan never started here — which is a large part of why the entire advertised long-stay market in this province is six buildings on one portal, all in the capital district. If you have wondered why a well-run province of 320,445 people has almost nothing to rent, this is most of the answer. The conclusion survives the correction; the premise it used to rest on did not.
