Schools & education in Ang Thong

A sports university at Chaiyo, a college of dramatic arts beside the hospital, a technical college founded in 1936 that now awards a degree — and no international-curriculum school anywhere we could find.

Share

The one-line version: Ang Thong is better provided than most provinces its size — it has an actual degree-granting university campus, a bachelor's-level college of dramatic arts, a technical college nearly ninety years old that now awards its own degree, and two more vocational colleges. What it does not have, on everything we could check, is a single international-curriculum school. If your children need an IB or Cambridge programme, this page is where the province stops working for you.

On the international-school question, precisely

We want to be exact about the strength of this finding, because "there are none" and "we found none" are different claims and only one of them is true here. What we did: we opened the International Schools Association of Thailand's member directory, which lists 207 schools, and read the listings; the one apparent Ang Thong hit turned out to be a false positive matching a Bangkok district name rather than this province. We also ran Thai-language searches for an international school in Ang Thong, which returned nothing in-province — the closest thing to a signal was a public forum thread from someone asking the same question, answered entirely with schools in Ayutthaya, Saraburi, Lop Buri, Sing Buri, Suphan Buri and Chai Nat. What we could not do: apply the ISAT directory's province filter cleanly, because it is a scripted widget that did not respond to a direct request. So we did not obtain a filtered zero, which is what a hard negative would require. The honest published statement is: no international-curriculum school identified in Ang Thong; the nearest realistic options are in Ayutthaya and Bangkok. If you find one we missed, we would rather know.

Frequently asked

Is there a university in Ang Thong?Yes — and that is genuinely unusual for a province of this size, so it is worth saying plainly. Thailand National Sports University keeps its Ang Thong Campus at 39 Moo 8 in tambon Chaiyaphum, Chaiyo district, under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, awarding bachelor's degrees across three faculties: Sport Science and Health, Liberal Arts, and Education. It descends from the old Angthong Physical Education College and runs an international-studies office. The Ang Thong College of Dramatic Arts, one of the twelve colleges under the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute, also teaches to bachelor's level. What Ang Thong does not have is a general-purpose Rajabhat or Rajamangala campus — we searched specifically and found only collaborations with Ayutthaya Rajabhat, not a campus in the province.
Is there an international school in Ang Thong?None that we could identify, and we want to be precise about the strength of that finding rather than overstate it. We checked the International Schools Association of Thailand's member directory of 207 schools, and we ran Thai-language searches for an international school in Ang Thong. Nothing in-province came back — the one apparent hit in the ISAT directory turned out to be a string match on a Bangkok district name, not this province. But the ISAT directory's province filter is a scripted widget we could not make apply cleanly, so we did not achieve a clean filtered negative. The honest statement is: no international-curriculum school identified in Ang Thong, and the nearest realistic options are in Ayutthaya and Bangkok. For a family that needs an IB or Cambridge programme, that is a decisive fact and we would rather you had it now.
What are the main Thai secondary schools?Angthong Pattamarot Wittayakhom is the province's historic provincial school and runs an SMTE gifted stream — Science, Mathematics, Technology and Environment — at lower-secondary level. Satri Angthong, founded on 17 May 1939 as the provincial girls' school after splitting from Angthong Pattamarot and now co-educational, teaches lower and upper secondary from a 33-rai site in tambon Sala Daeng. Both are OBEC state schools in the capital district, and both are in the Sing Buri–Ang Thong secondary education service area. There is also an Angthong Sports School, which fits the province's sporting-education specialism.
Is vocational education strong in Ang Thong?Yes, and it is the province's real depth. Angthong Technical College traces back to a primary carpentry trade school founded on 7 July 1936 at Wat Thong Khung, moved to its present 41-rai site on Thetsaban 10 Road in 1938, became Angthong Trade School in 1959 and a technical college in 1980; since 2022 it has offered a two-year continuing Bachelor of Technology in automotive technology alongside its vocational and high-vocational certificates. Two industrial and community education colleges sit alongside it, at Bang Chao Cha in Pho Thong and San Chao Rong Thong in Wiset Chai Chan. For a province whose largest economic sector is manufacturing at 19.4 per cent of gross provincial product, that pipeline makes sense.
Should I move to Ang Thong with school-age children? It depends entirely on whether they will be educated in Thai. The province has a full OBEC state system with strong provincial secondary schools, an SMTE gifted stream, a technical college with a degree pathway, a college of dramatic arts and a sports university — a genuinely reasonable set of options for a Thai-language education. If your children need an international curriculum, the answer changes completely: nothing we could identify in the province offers one, and you would be committing to a daily drive to Ayutthaya or further. Before you sign anything, drive the route to whichever school you have in mind at the time of day you would actually be doing it.
