Bloomsbury International School Hatyai opened its doors at the start of the 2014–15 academic year with, by the school's own account, between thirty and forty students and eleven teachers across primary and secondary. It has since become the only CIS-accredited international school in Hat Yai and the only one in the city offering boarding. It teaches the National Curriculum for England through primary, moves into the Cambridge curriculum in secondary, and carries students through IGCSE to A-Level in the Sixth Form — a complete British pathway on a single purpose-built campus. Two things distinguish it from anything else in southern Thailand outside Phuket: the CIS accreditation, awarded in January 2022, and boarding that starts in Year 5 and can be taken by the night rather than by the term.
Where the campus is

Kuanlung is out along Airport-Lopburirames Road, on the corridor between the city and Hat Yai International Airport (HDY) — residential, quieter and lower-density than the centre. There is no rail option: Hat Yai Junction is an intercity railhead, not a commuter line, so this is a car or school-bus run like every other school in the city. In Hat Yai's favour, the city is compact and flat and the drive in from the centre is a genuine cross-town trip rather than the cross-province drives that define school choice in Pattaya or Phuket. Families who fly often find the airport-side position an asset rather than a cost.
The campus
A purpose-built campus a short drive from Hat Yai International Airport, laid out across buildings the school names England, Wales and Scotland. The school describes twenty-four classrooms over two floors of the England and Wales buildings off sixty-metre corridors, plus a music room, a drama studio, an IT suite, a cooking room, an art room, a refurbished science lab and two libraries. The six-storey Scotland building holds a convention centre used for whole-school events, with the boarding house on its fifth floor.
The academic pathway
- Early Years on the English Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
- Primary on the National Curriculum for England.
- Secondary on the Cambridge curriculum through Key Stages 3 and 4.
- IGCSE examinations in the upper secondary years.
- A-Level in the Sixth Form — the school runs a dedicated Advanced Level programme, so students can complete a full British pathway without leaving Hat Yai.
- English as an Additional Language (EAL) is run as a named programme rather than an informal arrangement, which matters for a family arriving mid-pathway with limited English.
Accreditation, exam boards & membership
- Council of International Schools (CIS) — accredited 14 January 2022, per CIS's own announcement and the school's history page. Bloomsbury is the only CIS-accredited school in Hat Yai.
- Cambridge International — a Cambridge School since February 2016.
- Oxford International AQA Examinations — centre certificate awarded 7 January 2019. This is a second, separate examination board alongside Cambridge, and it is easy to miss.
- ONESQA — the Thai Office for Educational Standards and Quality Assessment, which no school in Thailand may legally operate without. The school reports being re-accredited following an inspection at the end of 2021.
- International Schools Association of Thailand (ISAT) — member since July 2015.
Boarding
Bloomsbury is a day and boarding school. The school states that boarding is open to students from Year 5 to Year 13, and that it is available on any night of the week, Monday to Sunday, on both full and flexible terms. That nightly flexibility is the single most consequential fact on this page: it means a family in Songkhla town, Phatthalung, Trang, Satun or across the border in Malaysia can use the school without relocating to Hat Yai, and a Hat Yai family can use boarding for two nights a week rather than committing to a term. Boarders have a common room, dining room and fitness room, and the school runs weekend trips — recent ones have gone to Koh Lanta, Trang, Satun and farms around Songkhla.
Scale of the school
The school publishes its founding cohort — thirty to forty students and eleven teachers in 2014 — rather than a current roll, and we would rather point you at the school than print a number we cannot date. Ask admissions for the current roll and, more usefully, the size of the specific year group your child would join. In a school of this scale a single year group can be small enough that its composition matters more than the whole-school figure.
Who it tends to suit
Families who want a complete British pathway to A-Level without moving to Bangkok or Phuket, and who value an accreditation that a university admissions office will recognise. Also, distinctly, families who are not moving to Hat Yai at all — the Year 5 boarding with nightly flexibility makes this a realistic option from across the southern provinces and over the Malaysian border, which no other school in the city offers.

The Kuanlung airport corridor is the natural base for a Bloomsbury day family, but Hat Yai is compact enough that the city centre is a workable alternative — and boarding removes the question entirely.

Confirm these with the school before you commit
- The youngest age the school will accept. Its own site describes an Early Years programme on the EYFS but does not state an entry age we could verify from a primary source, and third-party directories disagree — ask admissions rather than trusting a listing.
- Which subjects are entered with Cambridge International and which with Oxford International AQA. The school holds both authorisations and the split is a subject-level decision.
- The boarding fee structure for flexible nights versus full boarding, and the minimum commitment — 'available any night' is the school's description of availability, not a statement about pricing.
- The school's claim, made when its CIS accreditation was announced in 2022, that it was then one of only three CIS-accredited schools south of Bangkok. That was the school's statement at that time; CIS membership changes, so check the current CIS directory if the comparison matters to you.
- The current fee schedule — tuition, application and enrolment or admission fees, any refundable deposit, uniforms, lunches, the bus and trips. We link each school's own fees page rather than reprint a number that goes stale every August.
- Whether the year group you need has a place, or a waitlist, for your intended start date. With three schools in the city, a single full cohort can decide where you live.
- How far the school actually takes your child. This is the Hat Yai question. One of the three does not run a secondary programme at all, so a family with a seven-year-old is making a decision that expires.
- Which examination board each subject is entered with. Hat Yai's two through-schools both use a mix of Cambridge International and Oxford AQA, and the mix is set subject by subject, not school-wide.
- The school bus route, catchment and pick-up time for the exact neighbourhood you are considering — then ask what time the bus gets back. Hat Yai is compact, but the Kuanlung airport corridor and the city centre are opposite ends of a real drive at 07:30.
- Entry requirements: assessment or placement testing, interviews, English-language support, and the reports or transcripts you must supply.
- For boarding: the age it starts, the flexible and full options actually running this year, and the weekend and exeat arrangements.
