Schools & universities in Kalasin.

Two degree-awarding institutions under two different ministries — a state university formed in 2015 across four sites, and a dramatic arts college on Sanambin Road. Two large state secondaries running English-medium classrooms. A vocational sector that drives more of the town's housing than the university does. A hospital that teaches clinical medicine. No Ramkhamhaeng campus and no Ramkhamhaeng examination centre — and no international-curriculum school anywhere in the province.

The one sentence a relocating family needs: there is no international-curriculum school in Kalasin, but there is English-medium teaching, and the nearest international option narrows to a single school once your child turns twelve. Both large state secondaries in the provincial town — Kalasinpittayasan and Anukoolnaree — run a Mini English Program within the Thai curriculum. For an international curriculum the answer is Khon Kaen, about 87 kilometres west: four English-medium schools, of which only Khon Kaen Vithes Suksa Bilingual School teaches past the age of twelve. The institutions

What education looks like here

Kalasin University

State university · established 8 September 2015 · four locations in the province

Kalasin University was established by Royal Gazette announcement — issue 132, section 86A — on 8 September 2015, and it was created by merging two existing institutions rather than founded from nothing: Kalasin Rajabhat University, which brought education and the social sciences, and the Kalasin campus of Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, which brought sciences, agriculture and technology. It is governed by the Kalasin University Act 2015. Nine faculties existed provisionally at the merger, and a new structure announced in October 2018 also settled on nine, among them Education & Educational Innovation, Liberal Arts, Science & Health Technology, Administrative Sciences, Agricultural Technology, and Engineering & Industrial Technology. It runs 51 bachelor's degree programmes and seven graduate programmes covering MBA, MSc, MPH and MEd, plus a Higher Vocational Certificate, and holds eleven memorandums of understanding with universities in ASEAN, Taiwan, China and Indonesia. The administrative address is 62/1 Kasetsomboon Road, Mueang Kalasin. One number we will not give you: the university does not publish a student total on its official site, and we are not going to estimate one.

The four sites — and why that matters for housing

In-town · Na Mon · Kamalasai · Phu Sing research centre

Kalasin University is not one campus and this has practical consequences. The in-town area in Mueang Kalasin carries Administrative Sciences, Agricultural Technology and Engineering & Industrial Technology. The Na Mon area, in the district of that name south of the capital, carries Education & Educational Innovation, Liberal Arts and Science & Health Technology. There is a fourth site in Kamalasai district, and the Phu Sing Research & Development Centre handles plantation and farming work. Splitting a student body four ways diffuses housing demand rather than concentrating it, and the rental data shows exactly that: in an August 2026 portal check, the landmark facet for Kalasin University returned five listings while the facet for Kalasin Commercial College returned fourteen, and the whole town cluster sat in a downtown radius around the hospital and the market rather than around a campus. If you are moving here for the university, work out which site you will actually be at before you choose an area.

Kalasin College of Dramatic Arts

The province's second degree awarder · Sanambin Road, Mueang Kalasin · 043-811317 · Ministry of Culture, not the university ministry

This page used to answer "which universities are here?" with one name. That was the wrong shape of answer, because a degree is awarded in this province by a second institution that is not a university and does not sit under the university ministry at all. Kalasin College of Dramatic Arts — วิทยาลัยนาฏศิลปกาฬสินธุ์ — was established on 1 May 1981 by the Ministry of Education, originally under the Art Education Division of the Fine Arts Department, and is one of twelve dramatic-arts colleges nationally. Today it is a constituent college of the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute, which sits under the Ministry of Culture. It teaches the full ladder from lower-secondary dramatic-arts certificates upward, and at the top of that ladder it awards a four-year Bachelor of Education — a teaching qualification — in two fields: Music Education, taught on the Thai-music side including the pin, khaen, hueiad and pong lang, and Dramatic Arts Education, split between Thai classical and regional folk dance. If you are moving here with a musically or artistically inclined teenager, that is a nationally-networked conservatoire route sitting in the provincial town, and nothing else on this page substitutes for it. It is on Sanambin Road in Mueang Kalasin, on 043-811317.

Clinical medical education

Kalasin Hospital · teaching for Mahasarakham University

The province teaches medicine, in a way that is easy to miss because the degree is awarded elsewhere. Kalasin Hospital in the provincial town runs a clinical medical education centre — approved in principle by the cabinet on 6 May 2009, established under a memorandum of understanding signed on 31 July 2009, and formally created by Ministry of Public Health order 1056/2552 on 7 August 2009 — teaching clinical years four, five and six of the MD programme. The partner is the Faculty of Medicine at Mahasarakham University, not Khon Kaen University, which is the guess most people would make given that Khon Kaen holds the region's largest medical centre and is nearer. One loose end we report rather than hide: some of the centre's rotation-timetable URLs use a slug normally associated with a different university, which we could not explain, so we do not claim the Mahasarakham relationship is exclusive.

The vocational sector

Two public colleges we can now name from their own sites — and the largest housing driver in the town

Kalasin's vocational and specialist colleges do more for the town's housing market than the university does, which is not something you would guess. The last version of this page listed the sector entirely from rental-portal landmark data and said so; we have now replaced the two most important entries with official sources. Kalasin Technical College sits on Attapesol and Surin Roads in Mueang Kalasin. It opened on 14 July 1952 as Kalasin Carpentry School, became Kalasin Technical College on 1 April 1980, and is a member college of Vocational Education Institute Northeast 3, the institute grouping the Kalasin, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham and Roi Et colleges. It runs fourteen certificate and twenty diploma programmes for 2024–2026 across welding, construction and civil, machine shop, automotive, electrical power, electronics, industrial technique, computer technology, accounting, logistics, marketing, digital business, food and nutrition, and hotel. Kalasin Industrial and Community Education College is a separate public college at 65 Sanambin Road — the same road as the dramatic arts college, and neither institution's page mentions the other. It runs eleven certificate and diploma departments, including automotive body and paint and a beauty department that the technical college does not have, plus short courses in hairdressing, barbering, Thai massage, popular music, industrial sewing, driving instruction and statutory vehicle roadworthiness inspection. Rental-portal landmark data additionally surfaced Pattanabandit Technological College, Somdej Commercial & Technological College and Thaitec Asia Vocational College, and a commercial-technology college in the town whose largest landmark facet — fourteen listings, the biggest of any institution in the province — we previously described as "the Thai–German college". We could not corroborate that descriptor on re-checking, so we withdraw it here and leave the college named only by its function. Those three remain portal-sourced and unverified, and we mark them so rather than implying an inventory we do not have.

Ramkhamhaeng University

A double absence — no campus and no examination centre in this province

Ramkhamhaeng is Thailand's open university and, for a working adult in a small province, usually the answer to "can I take a Thai degree here without moving?" In much of Isaan it is: the university runs twenty-three regional campuses and a further list of forty-one examination centres hosted by local schools and colleges, so many provinces have one or the other even when they lack a university. Kalasin has neither. It is not among the twenty-three campuses and it is not among the forty-one examination centres, which is a stronger absence than most provinces we have checked — Chaiyaphum has both, Uttaradit and Sa Kaeo have an examination centre without a campus. The practical answer is Khon Kaen, which is both: the regional campus is there and it is also examination centre 08, building code RK, on 043-306106-7. If Khon Kaen is inconvenient, examination centre 11 is at Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn Roi Et on 043-513900, and centre 33 is at Mathayom Wanon Niwat school in Sakon Nakhon. All three are out-of-province drives, which for a distance-learning degree means the study is local and the sitting of every final examination is not. Centres do change; check the current registration handbook before you enrol.

State secondary schooling — and the English streams

Two large secondaries in the provincial town, both with English-medium special classrooms

This page previously declined to name any school in the province. That was wrong, and the correction matters more than the omission did, because it changes what a relocating family thinks their options are. Kalasinpittayasan School (โรงเรียนกาฬสินธุ์พิทยาสรรพ์, K.P.S.) is at 66 Attapesol Road, Tambon Kalasin, Mueang Kalasin 46000, on 043-811278, under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office for Kalasin. It is the province's first school, originally boys-only and now co-educational, and is classified an extra-large secondary school. It currently runs three special classrooms: a Mini English Program at M1, an SMTE science-and-maths stream at M1, and an Intensive Program at M4. That is not a historical claim — the school published its M1 MEP intake for academic year 2569 on 1 February 2026, admissions online only through reg.pawano.net/kps2, the system opening 9 February 2026 at 08:30 and closing on 13 February at 16:30, with an admissions line on 043-840016. Anukoolnaree School (โรงเรียนอนุกูลนารี) is the town's second large secondary, at 159 Phirom Road in the same subdistrict. Its own history page lists four special classrooms — a SMART Class, a science, maths, technology and environment stream, an LMS Class, and a Mini English Program opened at lower secondary in 2017 — and the provincial secondary office published its special-classroom admissions round for academic year 2568 as 15 to 19 February, online. Kalasin University's own news service records the two institutions running TOEFL Junior training and testing together on 1 and 2 February 2024, in the university's multipurpose hall, for 335 Anukoolnaree lower-secondary students from the SMART, SMTE and LMS streams. A province where the university and the second secondary school jointly sit an international English test is not a province with no English provision, which is what this page had implied.

A name collision worth knowing before you search

Two different schools, near-identical names, same subdistrict

Mueang Kalasin contains both Kalasinpittayasan School (โรงเรียนกาฬสินธุ์พิทยาสรรพ์) and Kalasin Pittayasai School (โรงเรียนกาฬสินธุ์พิทยาสัย). They are different institutions at different levels under different authorities: the first is the extra-large secondary at 66 Attapesol Road under the secondary service area office; the second is a primary school on Phirom Road, Tambon Kalasin, Mueang Kalasin 46000, on 043-811564, under Kalasin Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. Directory listings and search results conflate them routinely. We publish the distinction rather than quietly picking one, because a parent searching either name will land on both.

International curriculum

None in the province — and the nearest option narrows sharply by age

This is the material fact for any relocating family. There is no international-curriculum school in Kalasin province. We re-tested that in Thai as well as English for this update and it held: no such school surfaced in either language. What we got wrong before was the next sentence, not this one. We previously said the nearest provision was in Khon Kaen, about 80 to 87 kilometres west, and that we had not checked those schools so we would name none of them — but BAANLYY had already verified them, on our own Khon Kaen schools page, which the reader was one click away from. So here is the resolved answer. Khon Kaen has four English-medium options: Asia Singapore International School, American Prime International School, Khon Kaen International School and Khon Kaen Vithes Suksa Bilingual School. The number that actually governs a relocation decision is a different one: only Khon Kaen Vithes Suksa Bilingual School teaches a child past the age of twelve, running to Secondary 6 with Cambridge IGCSEs. The other three stop at primary. So a family moving to Kalasin with a younger child has a choice of four schools an hour and a quarter away; a family with a teenager has one, and should treat that as the constraint rather than assuming a market exists. There is no A Level, no IB Diploma and no US high-school diploma taught anywhere in Khon Kaen — for those, Khon Kaen families go to Udon Thani. Price the commute, a weekday second home or boarding alongside the fees, and read our Khon Kaen schools page before signing anything here.

FAQ

Education questions

Is there an international school in Kalasin?

No — and that answer held when we re-tested it in Thai as well as English for this update. But the useful answer has two more parts. Inside the province there is English-medium teaching, just not international-curriculum teaching: both large state secondaries in the provincial town run a Mini English Program, which is a bilingual stream within the Thai curriculum. Kalasinpittayasan School at 66 Attapesol Road runs one at M1, alongside an SMTE stream at M1 and an Intensive Program at M4; Anukoolnaree School at 159 Phirom Road has run one at lower secondary since 2017, alongside its SMART, SMTE and LMS classes. Outside the province, the nearest international provision is Khon Kaen, 80 to 87 kilometres west and about an hour and a quarter by road, and we now name those schools because we have verified them ourselves: Asia Singapore International School, American Prime International School, Khon Kaen International School and Khon Kaen Vithes Suksa Bilingual School. Read the age limits before you plan around them — only KKVS teaches past twelve, to Secondary 6 with Cambridge IGCSEs. Our Khon Kaen schools page has the detail.

How many institutions in Kalasin award a bachelor's degree?

Two, under two different ministries — and this page previously implied one. Kalasin University is the obvious one: a state university created in 2015, nine faculties, 51 bachelor's programmes, spread across four sites in the province. The one that is easy to miss is the Kalasin College of Dramatic Arts on Sanambin Road in the provincial town, on 043-811317, which is a constituent college of the Bunditpatanasilpa Institute under the Ministry of Culture and awards a four-year Bachelor of Education in Music Education and in Dramatic Arts Education. A third route exists but does not close in this province: Kalasin Hospital teaches clinical years four to six of the MD programme, and the degree is awarded by Mahasarakham University in the province next door. One candidate we deliberately do not add. Kalasin Technical College is a member of Vocational Education Institute Northeast 3, the tier that lets technical colleges award a Bachelor of Technology, and a secondary source records it opening such a programme in electrical technology in 2014 — but the college's own published curriculum for 2024–2026 lists fourteen certificate and twenty diploma programmes and no bachelor's degree at all. When a college's own page disagrees with a secondary source about its own offering, the college wins, so we report the conflict and do not count it. Ask the college directly if a Bachelor of Technology is what you need.

Can I study with Ramkhamhaeng University while living in Kalasin?

You can study; you cannot sit the examinations here. Ramkhamhaeng runs twenty-three regional campuses and forty-one examination centres across Thailand, and Kalasin appears on neither list — a double absence, and a harder one than most provinces we have checked. The nearest place that is both a campus and an examination centre is Khon Kaen, examination centre 08, building code RK, on 043-306106-7, about an hour and a quarter west. Two other centres are closer than Bangkok and may suit depending on which side of the province you live: centre 11 at Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn Roi Et on 043-513900, and centre 33 at Mathayom Wanon Niwat in Sakon Nakhon. Budget the drive and an overnight stay into every examination period rather than into the tuition, and confirm the current centre list in the registration handbook before enrolling, because the university states that centres can change.

What is Kalasin University, and is it any good?

It is a state university created on 8 September 2015 by merging Kalasin Rajabhat University with the Kalasin campus of Rajamangala University of Technology Isan, governed by its own 2015 Act, running nine faculties, 51 bachelor's programmes and seven graduate programmes across MBA, MSc, MPH and MEd, plus a Higher Vocational Certificate, with eleven international memorandums in ASEAN, Taiwan, China and Indonesia. On whether it is any good, we are not going to pretend to an assessment we cannot support: the university publishes no student total on its official site, we found no verifiable ranking or outcomes data, and repeating a marketing claim would be worse than saying so. What we can tell you is structural and useful — it is spread across four sites in the province, which is unusual and which affects where you would live if you worked or studied there.

Where should I live if I'm attached to Kalasin University?

It depends entirely on which of the four sites you will be at, and this is the question most people skip. The in-town area in Mueang Kalasin carries Administrative Sciences, Agricultural Technology and Engineering & Industrial Technology, and living in the town gives you the hospital, the markets and effectively the whole formal rental market — 17 of the province's 23 visible apartment listings. The Na Mon area, in the district south of the capital, carries Education & Educational Innovation, Liberal Arts and Science & Health Technology, and has the province's only other rental cluster: five listings on one portal and two on another, small blocks whose own listings describe them by campus proximity. There is a fourth site in Kamalasai and a research centre at Phu Sing. Because the sites are separate districts rather than one campus, commuting between them is a real daily journey — so pick your site first and your area second.

Does Kalasin train doctors?

Clinically, yes — although the degree is awarded by a university in another province. Kalasin Hospital in the provincial town runs a clinical medical education centre teaching years four, five and six of the MD programme. The paper trail is clean: cabinet approval in principle on 6 May 2009, a memorandum of understanding on 31 July 2009, and formal establishment by Ministry of Public Health order 1056/2552 on 7 August 2009. The partner institution is the Faculty of Medicine at Mahasarakham University — not Khon Kaen University, which is closer and holds the region's largest medical centre — and there is a historical echo in that, because Kalasin was administratively a district of Maha Sarakham from 1932 to 1947. One honest loose end: some of the centre's rotation-timetable URLs use a slug normally denoting a different university, which we could not explain, so we do not claim the Mahasarakham link is the only one.

What about Thai schools in Kalasin?

The two you will actually be choosing between in the provincial town are Kalasinpittayasan School, at 66 Attapesol Road on 043-811278, and Anukoolnaree School, at 159 Phirom Road. Both are large state secondaries under the provincial secondary service area office, and both run English-medium special classrooms as well as science and maths streams — the detail is in the cards above. A third name will come up in searches and is a different school: Kalasin Pittayasai School, on Phirom Road, is a primary school under the primary service area office, on 043-811564. Beyond those, the province runs the standard Thai state structure across its eighteen districts and roughly 135 subdistricts — and on the sub-village count our own sources disagree, so we will not settle it here: this page previously said 134 subdistricts and 1,509 villages, while the province's own published basic-data return gives 135 subdistricts and 1,584 villages. Alongside that sit a substantial vocational and specialist college sector in the town and, at the top of it, a degree-awarding dramatic arts college. We have surveyed the two large town secondaries and not the primary tier or the outer districts — treat that as the boundary of our coverage rather than as a statement about what is out there. As anywhere in Thailand, visit in person, ask about class sizes and English provision directly, and talk to parents locally before deciding.
