Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Khon Kaen at a glance

This is one of the oldest teaching institutions in the province and it sits under a different ministry from every university on this page. It opened on 8 February 1962 as Khon Kaen Midwifery School under the Department of Health -- the third midwifery school in Thailand -- and passed through a chain of names as its courses lengthened: Khon Kaen Health Midwifery School in 1965, Khon Kaen College of Nursing and Midwifery in 1987, and its present name in February 1994 after royal permission was granted for nursing colleges in the group to carry the name Boromarajonani.

The college moved out of the cramped city site in 1998-99, building on roughly 42 rai of state land in Tambon Ban Ped about 10 kilometres from the town centre; Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn opened the new buildings on 22 December 1999. Its degree history matters for reading the college's own older pages: for two decades its nursing degrees were conferred through an affiliation with Khon Kaen University. That changed with the Praboromarajchanok Institute Act, gazetted 5 April 2019 and in force from 6 April 2019, which made the institute a degree-conferring higher-education body in the Ministry of Public Health; the affiliated students were transferred across from 2020. Notable facts
