Sirindhorn College of Public Health, Khon Kaen at a glance

The college opened on 1 October 1963 as the Northeastern Health Training Centre under the Department of Health. Its first premises were borrowed -- a yaws control unit in Ratchaburi, several hundred kilometres away -- and it moved to Khon Kaen in 1964 once its own buildings on Anamai Road were finished, where it has been ever since. It became a college in 1978, and in 1994 received royal permission to carry Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's name, as the public health colleges nationally did.

It is the province's main producer of non-nursing clinical and public-health staff, and it teaches the trades that a resident actually meets at a health centre: community public health, dental public health, pharmacy technique and emergency medical operations. As at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, its degrees were for years conferred through an affiliation with an outside university -- Burapha, in this case -- and that arrangement predates the Praboromarajchanok Institute Act of 2019; the college now sits in the institute's Faculty of Public Health and Allied Health Sciences. It also runs public dental, Thai-massage and general clinics on the campus.
