Overview
Nakhon International City School is the school every family relocating to Nakhon Si Thammarat finds first, and its English name does a great deal of work that its Thai name does not. In Thai it is โรงเรียนนานาชาติเทศบาลนครนครศรีธรรมราช — Nakhon Si Thammarat City Municipality International School — and its own published notices state plainly that it sits under the municipality. English-language directories have described it as a non-profit founded by a partnership of provincial political, educational and business leaders; that is the school's own founding story, and it is not wrong, but it is not the same thing as its present legal and administrative identity. NICS is a local-government school.
The curriculum question answers itself from the school's own site. Its staff are organised into the eight learning areas of the Thai Basic Education Core Curriculum — Thai language, mathematics, science and technology, social studies, health and physical education, arts, careers, and foreign languages — and its own fee announcements are worded as charges for study beyond the Basic Education Core Curriculum.
