Public university · founded 1955 · Saen Suk, Mueang Chonburi District, Chonburi
Burapha University was established on 8 July 1955, originating from what began as the Northeastern first regional tertiary institute -- the university traces its roots to the founding of a teacher-training college that grew into a comprehensive public university. Its main campus sits in Saen Suk, on the coast near Bangsaen beach in Mueang Chonburi District, a roughly 45-60 minute drive from central Pattaya depending on traffic.
Burapha is a large public university, reporting close to 50,000 students across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs, and operates additional campuses in Chanthaburi and Sakaeo provinces alongside the main Chonburi campus. As the flagship public university of the Eastern Seaboard region -- the industrial and tourism corridor that includes Pattaya -- it functions as the region's primary source of local graduates and public higher education, distinct from Thammasat University's smaller, specialised Pattaya Center.
