Institute of Vocational Education: Eastern Region at a glance
This is the degree-awarding body most Pattaya households have never heard of, and for a working adult with a ปวส. diploma it is often the nearest route to a bachelor's. Institutes of this class are created under the Vocational Education Act B.E. 2551 by grouping existing colleges under one degree-awarding council; the Minister of Education signed this one into existence on 13 June 2012. It teaches to ปวช. and ปวส. level and to the bachelor's degree, and it runs its own graduate-studies office.
Its nine member colleges are Chonburi Technical, Sattahip Technical, Chonburi Vocational, the Science-Based Technology Vocational College (Chonburi), Rayong Technical, Map Ta Phut Technical, Ban Khai Technical, Chanthaburi Technical and Trat Technical. Four of the nine are in Chonburi and Sattahip Technical is the closest of those to Pattaya, roughly half an hour south. The institute's office, however, is not in Chonburi at all: it sits inside Rayong Technical College at 086/13 Taksin Road, Tha Pradu, Mueang Rayong. So the college you attend and the body that confers your degree are in different provinces -- which is exactly why a search for "universities in Chonburi" does not find this.
