Two or three international schools side by side: curriculum, area, age range and founding year.
Try it free →Uttaradit School and its Intensive English Programme, Uttaradit Daruni, Anuban Uttaradit, the Rajabhat university, the nursing college and all six vocational colleges — named and addressed, plus the honest position on international schooling.
Families read this first: BAANLYY has verified no international-curriculum school anywhere in Uttaradit province. If a full English-medium international track is a requirement for your children, Uttaradit is not a workable base — look at Phitsanulok an hour and a half south, or Chiang Mai. What the province does have, and what an earlier version of this page failed to tell you, is an Intensive English Programme stream at Uttaradit School — English-medium teaching inside a Thai state school, at a small fraction of international fees. That is the realistic middle option here, and everything below assumes you have absorbed both halves of that.
The province's flagship state secondary school and the single most important name on this page for a family with school-age children. Founded in 1909, it sits at 15 Injaimee Road in Tha It subdistrict, Mueang Uttaradit, runs under the Office of the Basic Education Commission, and enrols roughly 2,673 students across M1–M6 (Grades 7–12). It is historically the town's boys' school and its own site still leans on that identity. Crucially — and this is what our earlier version of this page failed to say — it operates a dedicated Intensive English Programme (IEP), an English-medium stream inside a Thai state school at a fraction of international-school fees. Confirm the current IEP intake, entrance testing and fees with the school directly; provincial EP and IEP streams are re-authorised year by year.
The town's other large state secondary school and historically the girls' counterpart to Uttaradit School. It maintains its own site and a well-run student-council presence, and its main line is 055 411105. Between Daruni and Uttaradit School, the two absorb most of the province's academically-selective secondary intake; families moving to the provincial town will hear both names within a week of arriving. Instruction is in Thai outside any English-medium stream. One thing this page previously printed the phone number for without knowing what else the building does: Daruni is also Ramkhamhaeng University's examination centre for the whole province — centre 38, building code UN, on that same 055 411105 line. See the Ramkhamhaeng entry below.
The provincial anuban — the large state primary school in the town centre that feeds the secondary schools above. It is also one of the small handful of Uttaradit schools that regularly takes on foreign English teachers, which is a useful proxy for where English-language contact actually exists in the province: at Anuban Uttaradit, at Uttaradit School, and at the Rajabhat university. Outside those, English in a classroom is the exception.
The province's first and only university, established on 1 August 1936 as the Uttaradit Teachers College and promoted to full university status on 14 June 2004 under the Rajabhat University Act. Its campus sits in the provincial town, and its teaching-college roots still shape it: education remains a core faculty. The faculty list published by the university is wider than an earlier version of this page suggested, and two entries on it matter to anyone judging the province — a Faculty of Nursing, which recruits by direct admission and is the reason nursing is a live career route here, and a Faculty of Agriculture, in a province whose economy is agricultural — alongside humanities and social sciences, science and technology, management sciences and industrial technology. URU also runs a faculty-level unit outside the province: Nan College, at 199 Moo 3, Tambon Thung Si Thong, Amphoe Wiang Sa, Nan, teaching two bachelor's programmes of its own (public administration and business administration). The student population is the main driver of what rental supply the province has. Two honest corrections worth stating. First, URU is the province's only university, but it is not the province's only institution awarding degrees — see the nursing college and the vocational colleges below. Second: Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, the north's technology university, runs six campuses — Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Nan, Tak and Phitsanulok — and none of them is in Uttaradit. The nearest is Phitsanulok.
The institution an earlier version of this page left out altogether, and the one most likely to matter to a household weighing whether the province can educate an adult as well as a child. It stands at 38/40 Chetsadabodin Road in Tha It subdistrict, Mueang Uttaradit — the same road, and effectively the same address, as Uttaradit Hospital at No. 38, which is not a coincidence: this is the hospital's nursing school. It began in 1972 as a nurse-aide and midwifery school under the Department of Medical Services and admitted its first certificate intake on 22 April 1974; today it is a degree-awarding college of the Faculty of Nursing at the Praboromarajchanok Institute, the Ministry of Public Health's own higher-education institution, and it teaches to the Bachelor of Nursing Science. Two consequences worth stating plainly. Uttaradit has two separate routes to a nursing degree without leaving the province — this college and the Rajabhat university's own Faculty of Nursing. And between the nursing students here and the CPIRD medical students at the hospital next door, the block around Chetsadabodin Road carries a standing, year-round demand for small rental units that has nothing to do with tourism.
The two anchor vocational institutions, and — this is the part no BAANLYY page had said — both are member colleges of the Institute of Vocational Education, Northern Region 3, the degree-awarding body headquartered outside the province at 410 Moo 1, Phitsanulok–Bueng Phra Road, Tambon Bueng Phra, Mueang Phitsanulok, on 055 337611. Membership is what lets them teach above the ปวช./ปวส. diploma ceiling: Uttaradit Vocational College (วิทยาลัยอาชีวศึกษาอุตรดิตถ์, uttvc.ac.th, 9 Paet Wa Road, Tha It, 055 411221) runs the Bachelor of Technology in Accounting (continuing programme) as a named department of the college, alongside its diploma work in business administration, marketing, digital business, fine arts and design, food and nutrition, hotel and tourism, and elderly care. Uttaradit Technical College (วิทยาลัยเทคนิคอุตรดิตถ์, uttc.ac.th) covers the engineering, mechanical, electrical and construction trades; it opened on 29 June 1937 as Uttaradit Woodworking School at 17 Injaimee Road in Tha It, became a technical college on 1 April 1981, and has since moved to 81 Moo 2, Phat Wari Road, Tambon Pa Sao. For a school leaver here, that IVEC 3 route is a real four-to-six-year ladder from a trade certificate to a bachelor's degree without moving away — worth knowing before assuming the province offers nothing past the Rajabhat.
The provincial vocational-education office's roster runs to six colleges, and an earlier version of this page described them only as a category and got the public-private split wrong — it said two were private. Five are public. In the provincial town: Uttaradit Technical College (81 Moo 2, Phat Wari Road, Pa Sao), Uttaradit Vocational College (9 Paet Wa Road, Tha It) and Uttaradit Polytechnic College (วิทยาลัยสารพัดช่างอุตรดิตถ์, 17 Injaimee Road, Tha It) — which is the short-course and technician college this page used to mention without naming, and which stands at the address the technical college itself opened at in 1937, two doors from Uttaradit School at No. 15. Outside the town: Phichai Industrial and Community Education College in Phichai district, and Rattanaprasitthiwit Industrial and Community Education College at 89 Moo 9, Tambon Song Khon, Amphoe Fak Tha — that is the same upland district as Fak Tha Wittaya School, so the far northeast is not, as this page implied, served by a secondary school alone. The sixth is private: Uttaradit Technological College (วิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีอุตรดิตถ์, utt.ac.th, 055 442930-4), which teaches electrical and electronics trades among others. In a province where agriculture, trade and forestry dominate, these colleges matter more to the local labour market than the university does.
Thailand's open university teaches at a distance and sits many students in provinces where it has no building, so the honest answer here has two halves and they point in different directions. There is no Ramkhamhaeng regional campus (สาขาวิทยบริการเฉลิมพระเกียรติ) in Uttaradit; of the twenty-three nationally, the nearest are Sukhothai and Phrae, with Phetchabun and Uthai Thani next. But Uttaradit is one of the forty-one national examination centres — centre 38, building code UN — and it sits at Uttaradit Daruni School, on 055 411105, the school and the telephone number already named higher up this page. In practice that means a resident can enrol with Ramkhamhaeng, study online from Uttaradit, and sit every final and re-sit examination inside the provincial town without travelling. For an adult foreign resident weighing a Thai-language degree, or for a Thai spouse finishing one, that is a materially different picture from 'no university options beyond the Rajabhat'.
Each district runs its own state secondary school — Fak Tha Wittaya School in the far northeastern upland district of Fak Tha is a documented example — teaching the Thai national curriculum in Thai. These schools are the practical option for anyone living outside Mueang Uttaradit, and the difference between them and the two big town schools is real: smaller cohorts, fewer subject streams, and no English-medium track that BAANLYY has been able to verify. If schooling quality is a deciding factor, it argues for living in or near the provincial town. One correction to how this page used to read, though: the districts are not secondary-school-only. Fak Tha, the same upland district as Fak Tha Wittaya School, also has Rattanaprasitthiwit Industrial and Community Education College at 89 Moo 9, Tambon Song Khon, and Phichai district has its own industrial and community education college. A teenager in either district can therefore go on to a vocational certificate without relocating to town.
BAANLYY has verified no full international-curriculum school (British, American, IB or otherwise) anywhere in Uttaradit province. This remains the single most important thing for a relocating family to understand, and we would rather state it plainly than imply an option exists. We also want to be straight about one loose end: a well-known teachers' guide to the province names a third school that takes foreign teachers, spelled in a way we could not match to any school we could independently verify, so we have deliberately left it off this page rather than print a name we cannot stand behind. The realistic choices here are Uttaradit School's IEP stream, a Thai state school, homeschooling, or relocating to a province with an international school — Phitsanulok about an hour and a half south, or Chiang Mai 238km northwest, which has many.
No — BAANLYY has verified none. Families needing a full English-medium international curriculum should treat Uttaradit as unsuitable unless they are willing to homeschool or to board children elsewhere. Phitsanulok, an hour and a half south, is the nearest place to look; Chiang Mai, 238km northwest, has the region's real depth of options. This is a decision to make before moving, not after.
Yes — Uttaradit School runs an Intensive English Programme (IEP), which maintains its own public presence separate from the main school. An IEP or EP stream teaches part of the curriculum in English inside a Thai state school, at a small fraction of international-school fees, and for most foreign and mixed families in this province it is the realistic English-medium answer. It is not an international curriculum and does not lead to IGCSE or IB. Contact the school directly to confirm this year's intake, entrance testing and fees — provincial EP and IEP streams are re-authorised annually and can pause.
Uttaradit School and Uttaradit Daruni School. Uttaradit School was founded in 1909, sits on Injaimee Road in Tha It subdistrict, enrols around 2,673 students across M1–M6 and is historically the boys' school; Uttaradit Daruni School is the girls' counterpart and can be reached on 055 411105. Both are competitive state schools under the Office of the Basic Education Commission. Outside the provincial town, each district runs its own secondary school, such as Fak Tha Wittaya School in the northeastern uplands.
Uttaradit Rajabhat University is the province's only university, founded on 1 August 1936 as the Uttaradit Teachers College and upgraded to full university status in June 2004; its faculties include nursing and agriculture, and it runs Nan College in Wiang Sa, Nan. It is not, however, the only place in the province that awards a degree. Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Uttaradit, at 38/40 Chetsadabodin Road beside Uttaradit Hospital, teaches to the Bachelor of Nursing Science under the Praboromarajchanok Institute. Uttaradit Vocational College awards a Bachelor of Technology in Accounting through the Institute of Vocational Education, Northern Region 3, of which it and Uttaradit Technical College are member colleges. Six vocational colleges operate province-wide — five public, one private. Ramkhamhaeng University has no campus here but sits its examinations at Uttaradit Daruni School as national centre 38. Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna has no Uttaradit campus; its nearest is Phitsanulok. For a research university with medical and postgraduate depth, that is also Phitsanulok — Naresuan University, the same faculty Uttaradit Hospital's CPIRD centre trains rural doctors for.
Yes, in four ways, all of them Thai-language. Uttaradit Rajabhat University teaches undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the provincial town. Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Uttaradit teaches the Bachelor of Nursing Science next to Uttaradit Hospital. Uttaradit Vocational College teaches a continuing Bachelor of Technology in Accounting through the Institute of Vocational Education, Northern Region 3, aimed at people who already hold a ปวส. higher diploma. And Ramkhamhaeng University's regional programme can be studied online from anywhere, with every examination sat at centre 38 inside the province, at Uttaradit Daruni School. Only the first two are conventional full-time campus study; all four require Thai.
Generally yes — Thai state schools accept foreign children, and in a province with no international alternative this is what most mixed Thai-foreign families here do. Instruction is in Thai outside an IEP or EP stream, so a child arriving without the language faces a real adjustment, easier the younger they are. Apply directly to the school; requirements and fees vary and are modest by international-school standards.
Rajabhat universities primarily teach in Thai and serve local students, so degree study generally requires Thai-language ability. They do commonly offer Thai-language courses and short programmes, which can support an education visa. Contact the university's international relations office directly to confirm what is currently offered and what visa documentation it supports — this changes year to year.
Primary and official sources are cited above. Government rules, fees and procedures in Thailand change over time and vary by office; always confirm current requirements with the relevant authority before relying on them. BAANLYY never takes paid placement in editorial content.
