Institute of Vocational Education: Southern Region 3 at a glance
IVES3 is a higher-education institute under the Office of the Vocational Education Commission at the Ministry of Education, formed by grouping the technical, vocational, agricultural-and-fishery and industrial-and-community-education colleges of Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Satun into one degree-awarding body. Nine member colleges sit under it, and the institute's own office is in Hat Yai, on Kanjanavanich Road at the Hat Yai Technical College site.
This matters because the institute -- not the college -- is the awarding body. A student enrols at a member college such as Hat Yai Technical College and graduates with a Bachelor of Technology (ทล.บ.) from IVES3, normally on a two-year continuing programme for holders of a higher vocational diploma (ปวส.). Fields the institute admits to include electrical technology, automotive technology, construction technology, and food technology and nutrition. It reports on quality at undergraduate level and publishes its own academic journal, KRIS.
