Koh Lanta is the practical Andaman-coast gateway to some of Thailand's best-regarded dive sites — Koh Haa, Koh Bida, Koh Rok, and the island's signature pair, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, a pair of offshore pinnacles known for manta ray encounters and seasonal whale sharks. Almost every established PADI center is based in or around Saladan, the pier town at the island's northern tip, though Lanta Diver also runs a southern departure from Pimalai Resort & Spa and Andaman Dive Adventure is based closer to Long Beach. For getting around the island and where to base yourself, see the Koh Lanta areas guide.

Courses are capped at a maximum of 4 students, and the school runs 2 big boats plus a speedboat with departures from both Saladan in the island's north and Pimalai Resort & Spa in the south — a genuine convenience for guests staying at that end of Koh Lanta. Daily trips run to Koh Haa, Koh Bida, the Kled Kaew wreck, Koh Rok, and Hin Daeng/Hin Muang.

Best for: Divers who want the island's longest-running PADI Career Development Center, fully published transparent pricing, or a pickup point near Kantiang Bay/Pimalai in the south.

Phoenix Divers Koh Lanta

Saladan — Moo 1, 154/1 Saladan, Ko Lanta, Krabi 81150 · Fun dives, PADI courses, freediving — contact for current rates (10% online-booking discount advertised)

An eco-friendly PADI 5-Star IDC dive center established in 2002, with instructors bringing diving experience from the Maldives, Mexico, the Red Sea, the Philippines, French Polynesia and Italy. Phoenix keeps groups small (a stated 3:1 diver-to-instructor ratio) and runs its own retail dive shop in Saladan as an authorized retailer of Mares, Cressi, ScubaPro, Aqualung and Ocean Dynamics gear. It also operates as a PADI and AIDA freediving center — one of only a few on the island — teaching from Discover Freediving through instructor level.

Best for: Divers who also want freediving certification, or anyone who prefers a well-established operator with genuinely worldwide diving experience behind its instructor team.

03

Hidden Depths Diving

Saladan — 123 Moo 1, Ban Saladan, Koh Lanta, Krabi 81150 · Fun dives, PADI courses, snorkeling — contact for current rates

A PADI 5-Star dive center running speedboat trips for PADI courses, experienced divers and snorkelers, keeping groups capped at a maximum of 4 divers per guide. Per its official PADI directory listing, Hidden Depths holds a PADI Green Star Award, follows Green Fins environmental guidelines, and runs Coralwatch coral-health surveys that guests can join.

Best for: Environmentally-minded divers who want a small-group, conservation-focused operator.

04

Andaman Dive Adventure

Long Beach/Saladan area — 637 Moo 3, Saladan, Koh Lanta, Krabi 81150 · Multi-day guided packages include breakfast, lunch, drinks, a PADI guide and resort transfer; contact for current rates (own-gear discount advertised)

A PADI dive center based in the Long Beach/Saladan area running guided fun-diving packages and PADI courses, with return transfers from Koh Lanta resorts built into its package pricing. A practical pick for guests staying along Long Beach who'd rather not travel to Saladan pier before a dive day.

Best for: Divers based on Long Beach who want an operator located closer to that strip, or a fully inclusive multi-day package.

FAQ

Koh Lanta diving FAQ

Where are Koh Lanta's dive shops based?

Nearly all of the island's main PADI centers — Lanta Diver, Phoenix Divers Koh Lanta and Hidden Depths Diving — are based in or right around Saladan, the pier town at Koh Lanta's northern tip, since it's the main departure point for boat trips. Andaman Dive Adventure is based nearby in the Long Beach/Saladan area. Lanta Diver also runs a second daily departure from Pimalai Resort & Spa in the south for guests staying at that end of the island.

Where do Koh Lanta dive trips actually go?

Day trips run to Koh Haa and Koh Bida (a short boat ride away), the Kled Kaew wreck, and Koh Rok — plus Koh Lanta's signature sites, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, two pinnacles reached by speedboat that rank among Thailand's best-regarded dive sites for manta ray encounters and seasonal whale shark sightings.

How much does diving cost from Koh Lanta?

Based on Lanta Diver's published price list, a 2-dive day trip to Koh Haa or Koh Bida runs about THB 3,500, a trip to Hin Daeng/Hin Muang by speedboat runs about THB 4,700, and a full PADI Open Water course (3 days) runs about THB 14,400. A separate Marine Park fee (THB 600/day for non-Thai adult divers) applies on top at protected sites. Exact pricing varies by operator and season — confirm directly before booking.

Is diving available year-round on Koh Lanta?

No. The Koh Lanta Marine Park, which covers Koh Haa, Hin Daeng/Hin Muang and Koh Rok, closes annually from July 1 through August 31 for conservation, and the separate Koh Phi Phi Marine Park (covering Koh Bida) follows its own schedule. If you're planning a dive trip to Koh Lanta during this window, confirm which sites and operators are currently running before booking.

Koh Lanta vs. Koh Phi Phi vs. Koh Tao for diving?

Koh Lanta's PADI centers are the more convenient, less-crowded gateway to Hin Daeng/Hin Muang and Koh Haa compared with the day-trip boats that pack in from Phuket, Krabi and Phi Phi itself. Koh Tao, in the Gulf of Thailand, remains Thailand's highest-volume, lowest-cost dive-training hub by a wide margin. Koh Lanta suits divers already staying on the island who want to add diving without a separate trip elsewhere.
