The campus, and how you actually get there

A compact, community-scale campus in Kathu — small by Phuket standards, which is the point: QSI's model depends on close teacher-to-student contact and ability grouping rather than a large estate.

Getting there: No rail on the island. Kathu sits in the middle of Phuket between Phuket Town and Patong, so it is one of the more forgiving locations for a two-directional family — roughly 15 minutes to either off-peak. The caveat is the Patong hill road, which is steep, slow in rain and the reason many Patong-based families still allow far more time than the distance suggests.

Phuket has no rail network of any kind — no BTS, no MRT, no commuter line. The island's long-discussed light rail scheme is still in study and procurement, so every school run here is a car, a motorbike or the school bus. The curriculum pathway

How a child progresses through the school, stage by stage:

• Preschool and elementary on the QSI mastery-learning model — students advance on demonstrated mastery, in multi-age, ability-grouped classes
• Secondary on the same mastery basis, with a US-style credit structure
• Advanced Placement (AP) courses in the senior years for university-bound students

Accreditation & memberships

Accreditation is the closest thing to an objective quality signal in international schooling — it means an outside body has inspected governance, teaching and safeguarding. Boarding: Day school — no boarding.

Scale: One of Phuket's smaller international communities. QSI publishes its own annual school profile with current enrolment; we do not restate a roll figure that moves every year. Roll and nationality figures move every year and schools report them differently — treat these as indicative and ask the admissions office for the current numbers.

Who this school tends to suit

American and other families who want a US high-school transcript and AP courses rather than IGCSE or IB, families whose child benefits from mastery pacing rather than a fixed year group, and anyone wanting a mid-island base that works for both Patong and Phuket Town.

Living near QSI International School of Phuket

Kathu's catchment is the island's middle — town on one side, Patong over the hill on the other:

Check the school's bus catchment before you sign. Phuket is a big island served by one congested north–south spine and a handful of hill roads — a villa that looks close on a map can sit outside the route, and a home on the route can be further away and still be the easier morning.

What to confirm directly with the school

BAANLYY deliberately does not publish per-school tuition figures: they change annually, schools publish their own current schedules, and a stale number is worse than none. Take this list to the admissions office:

• How the mastery model maps onto the year group your child is leaving — QSI does not use conventional grade promotion, and transfers in and out need translating.
• Which AP subjects are actually running in the year your child reaches them, which depends on cohort size at a small school.
• The current fee schedule — tuition, application and registration fees, any refundable deposit or capital/development levy, uniforms, lunches, the bus and trips.
• Whether the year group you need has a place, or a waitlist, for your intended start date.
• School bus routes, catchment zones and pick-up times for the specific beach or town you are considering — Phuket is a large island with a single congested north–south spine, and a home twenty minutes further out on the route can be the easier morning.
• Entry requirements: assessments, interviews, English-language support and the school reports or transcripts you must supply.
• How far the school takes your child — several Phuket schools stop before IGCSE or before sixth form, which means planning a second move.
