Overview

Patong is the beating heart of tourist Phuket: a wide, two-kilometre west-coast bay backed by the island's densest concentration of hotels, malls, restaurants and nightlife. For renters it offers the most stock and the widest price range on the island — from budget studios a few sois back to beachfront condos with full sea views — plus the strongest short-term rental demand if you ever want to let your place out.

The trade-off is intensity. Bangla Road's nightlife, traffic on the bypass and the wall-to-wall tourism in high season make Patong loud and busy by Phuket standards. Many long-stay expats treat it as a base for access rather than a quiet home, while families and remote workers who want calm usually look to Kata, Karon, Rawai or the northern beaches and visit Patong for the action.

Phuket International Airport (HKT) (~40-50 min by road) · Patong-Kathu bypass (main road east) · Songthaew & local bus (to Phuket Town) · Grab / Bolt & taxis (island-wide)

Patong sits on the west coast behind a steep hill road (Patong Hill) that connects to Kathu and Phuket Town in about 20-30 minutes. There is no rail anywhere on Phuket, so getting around means scooter, car, Grab/Bolt, taxi or the local songthaew; the airport is roughly 40-50 minutes north.

FAQ

Patong — frequently asked questions

Is Patong good for long-term living?

Patong suits people who want everything walkable and a busy social scene. It is the loudest, most tourist-heavy part of Phuket, so long-stay residents who want quiet usually prefer Kata, Karon, Rawai or the northern beaches and visit Patong for nightlife, malls and dining.

How far is Patong from the airport?

Phuket International Airport is about 40-50 minutes north by road. There is no train on Phuket; most people use a car, scooter, taxi or Grab/Bolt.
