Suratthani Vocational College at a glance
The oldest institution in this directory by thirty-five years, and it began as a girls' school. The Ministry of Education approved "Surat Thani Dressmaking School" on 19 April 1938; the first intake, on 10 August 1939, was thirty-two girls who had finished Prathom 4, taught on a two-year course inside Satri Suratthani School -- today's Suratpittaya School -- under headmistress Miss Chulee Atamamit.
Two teachers, Kru Phaeo Phromsawat and Kru Krit Bunyarat, donated the land it still occupies: 4 rai 1 ngan 80.3 square wa on Talat Mai Road, a kilometre from the market. The school moved into a two-storey wooden building there on 6 May 1941. It became the Surat Thani Girls' Trade School in 1948, Suratthani Vocational School in 1973, was merged with the Surat Thani Trade School as a two-campus college in 1976, and separated again into its present form on 1 April 1980, on a site that had grown to 7 rai 1 ngan 80.3 square wa.
Its subject mix is the reason it reads differently from the technical college up the road: accounting, marketing and management; digital business and IT; fine arts, design and digital graphics; home economics; hotel and tourism; logistics and supply chain; fashion and apparel technology; and food and nutrition. For a province that runs on tourism, ferry logistics and food, that is the local service economy taught directly.
The honest limit: this college is a member of the same Institute of Vocational Education: Southern Region 1 that confers bachelor's degrees at its sibling colleges, but the institute's published programme list does not site a bachelor's programme here, and the college's own department pages show certificate and higher-diploma study only.
