Overview

Rawai, on Phuket's southern tip, is the island's most established long-stay expat and family community. It is more a place to live than a place to holiday: the seafront is a working one of longtail boats and seafood restaurants rather than a swimming beach, but the nearby Nai Harn and Ya Nui beaches are among Phuket's prettiest, and the area is packed with everyday amenities, gyms, international restaurants, coworking and family services.

For renters and buyers it offers the best value-for-space on the island — pool villas and houses that would cost far more on the northern beaches, plus a growing supply of low-rise condos. The community skews toward digital nomads, retirees and families who want a settled, walkable-by-village base with quick access to the south-coast capes and Chalong's piers and gyms.

FAQ

Rawai — frequently asked questions

Why do expats choose Rawai?

Rawai offers the best value-for-space on Phuket, a long-established expat and family community, deep everyday amenities, and quick access to the south's prettiest beaches at Nai Harn and Ya Nui. It feels like a place to live rather than a holiday strip.

Is Rawai beach good for swimming?

Rawai's own seafront is a working beach of longtail boats and seafood restaurants, not a swimming beach. For swimming, residents head 10 minutes to Nai Harn or the small cove at Ya Nui.

How much is rent in Rawai?

Indicative long-term rents are about THB 10,000-18,000 for a studio, THB 15,000-30,000 for a one-bedroom and THB 25,000-50,000 for a two-bedroom, while two-to-three-bed pool villas commonly run THB 40,000-90,000 — strong value versus the northern beaches.

How far is Rawai from the airport?

About an hour by road, as Rawai sits at the southern tip of the island. Chalong is 10 minutes north and Phuket Town 25-30 minutes.
