No rail exists anywhere on Samui. Windfield is on the Lamai side, on Had Lamai Road in Maret, and is one of the few schools on the island advertising school bus transport across Samui rather than a local catchment — confirm which routes actually run in the current year, because that single answer decides how far from Lamai you can realistically live.

The curriculum pathway, stage by stage

What happens after 16

Windfield offers two routes to 18, which is unique on Samui. The French Lycée runs to the Baccalauréat, letting a student re-enter the French system cleanly. The Cambridge route runs AS and A Levels at 16–19 — and the school states that students here “benefit from a hybrid learning option in partnership with Wolsey Hall Oxford”, a distance-learning provider, expressly to widen subject choice. As at PBISS, that is a legitimate way for a small island school to offer subjects it could not otherwise staff, and the school discloses it plainly. Ask which A-Level subjects are taught by on-site teachers and which come through Wolsey Hall.

Scale & provision

Class sizes are capped at 20. On opening in 2021 the British section had an initial capacity of around 200 students running Years 1–10, while the French section had roughly 80 students; those are 2021 figures reported at launch and the school has since grown, so ask for the current roll and the size of your child's specific year group.

No boarding is advertised on the school's own website — treat Windfield as a day school.

Who it suits

The obvious and only real choice on Koh Samui for a French-speaking family, and a strong fit for bilingual and remote-working households — at launch the school said its typical enquiry came from a family already living in Bangkok or Chiang Mai and looking to trade city life and air quality for the island. That is close to a description of the DTV and long-stay audience.

What we could not verify — and where sources disagree

We publish these openly rather than smoothing them over. A school guide that hides its uncertainty is not much use to a family making a decision this big.

• The British section opened in August 2021, built alongside the island's already-established French school; the French section long predates it. The founding date given here is for the British section.
• The campus page describes the school as “certified by Cambridge and Oxford”. On the school's own academics page that resolves to the Cambridge Pathway plus the hybrid A-Level partnership with Wolsey Hall Oxford, an independent distance-learning college — not the University of Oxford. We describe what the academics page states rather than repeat the shorter phrase.
• Some third-party directories additionally credit Windfield with OxfordAQA. The school's own site does not state this, so we do not repeat it — ask admissions directly.
• Leadership named in launch coverage has since changed; the school currently names a Head of British Section, a Head of French Section and a Thai Director.

Ask every Koh Samui school this

• Ask whether the sixth form is taught on campus or online. On Samui this is the single highest-stakes question: of the three schools running A-levels, two describe their post-16 route as blended or hybrid learning on their own websites. Ask exactly which subjects are taught by on-site specialist staff, which are delivered remotely, and who supervises the student during study periods.
• Ask whether the year group your child needs actually runs this year. Island cohorts are small, and a stage can appear on a website while the class itself is not staffed or not filled. Ask how many children are currently in that specific year group.
• Drive the school run at 07:30, not at midday. Samui is a ring island served by one main road; the Chaweng and Lamai stretches back up badly at school and commuting times, and straight-line distance on a map is close to meaningless.
• Ask what the school bus actually covers. Provision varies enormously here -- one school advertises transport across the island, another describes its service as limited, and some run none at all. The bus catchment quietly decides which neighbourhoods are realistic for you.
• Ask which exam board each subject sits with, and where the examinations are physically taken. Several Samui schools hold authorisations from more than one board, and island logistics matter for exam sessions.
• Request the school's own current fee schedule in writing, including registration, deposit, uniform, bus, lunch and trips. We do not publish per-school fees because they change annually.
