No rail exists anywhere on Samui. Windfield is on the Lamai side, on Had Lamai Road in Maret, and is one of the few schools on the island advertising school bus transport across Samui rather than a local catchment — confirm which routes actually run in the current year, because that single answer decides how far from Lamai you can realistically live.

The curriculum pathway, stage by stage

What happens after 16

Windfield offers two routes to 18, which is unique on Samui, and they are delivered very differently. The French Lycée runs to the Baccalauréat, letting a student re-enter the French system cleanly; the school's Lycée pages disclose no remote-delivery partner, which — alongside the ISS BTEC — makes it one of the island's few post-16 routes that appears to be taught wholly on site. Confirm that directly, because an absence of disclosure is not the same as a statement. The Cambridge route runs AS and A Levels at 16–19 (Years 12–13), 3–5 subjects, and here the school is specific. Its summary page says students “benefit from a hybrid learning option in partnership with Wolsey Hall Oxford”; its own Cambridge Advanced stage page goes further and states that “a broad range of Cambridge AS & A Level subjects are delivered through Wolsey Hall”, with specialised online tutors, structured assignments and Wolsey Hall handling continuous assessment and progress tracking, blended with face-to-face guidance on campus. That answers, in the school's own words, the question our earlier note told families to ask — the A-level breadth on offer is Wolsey Hall's, not the campus timetable's. Two details worth pressing on: the published subject list annotates Sciences and Computer Science as “Year 12 only”, which may mean AS-level only rather than a full two-year A-level, and the same list is footnoted as subject to change each academic year depending on student interest.

Scale & provision

Class sizes are capped at 20. On opening in 2021 the British section had an initial capacity of around 200 students running Years 1–10, while the French section had roughly 80 students; those are 2021 figures reported at launch and the school has since grown, so ask for the current roll and the size of your child's specific year group.

No boarding is advertised on the school's own website — treat Windfield as a day school.

Who it suits

The obvious and only real choice on Koh Samui for a French-speaking family, and a strong fit for bilingual and remote-working households — at launch the school said its typical enquiry came from a family already living in Bangkok or Chiang Mai and looking to trade city life and air quality for the island. That is close to a description of the DTV and long-stay audience.

What we could not verify — and where sources disagree

We publish these openly rather than smoothing them over. A school guide that hides its uncertainty is not much use to a family making a decision this big.

• The British section opened in August 2021, built alongside the island's already-established French school; the French section long predates it. The founding date given here is for the British section.
• The campus page describes the school as “certified by Cambridge and Oxford”. On the school's own academics page that resolves to the Cambridge Pathway plus the hybrid A-Level partnership with Wolsey Hall Oxford, an independent distance-learning college — not the University of Oxford. We describe what the academics page states rather than repeat the shorter phrase.
• Some third-party directories additionally credit Windfield with OxfordAQA. Re-checked across the school's own academics tree on 2026-08-30 — every Cambridge stage page from EYFS to Cambridge Advanced, plus the AEFE pages — and OxfordAQA appears nowhere on the school's own site. We do not repeat it; ask admissions directly.
• The school's published Cambridge Advanced subject list opens with “more than 55 Cambridge International AS & A Level subjects”. That is the size of the Cambridge catalogue reachable through the Wolsey Hall partnership, not a count of subjects staffed on the Lamai campus — read it alongside the “3–5 subjects” a learner actually selects.
• Leadership named in launch coverage has since changed; the school currently names a Head of British Section, a Head of French Section and a Thai Director.

Ask every Koh Samui school this

• Ask who actually teaches the A-level lessons, and whether they are live. On Samui this is the single highest-stakes question, and the answer is not the one most guides give: all three schools running A-levels — ISS, PanyaDee and Windfield — state on their own websites that the courses are delivered wholly or partly through an external online provider. Live and timetabled is a genuinely different product from self-paced distance study, so ask specifically: is each subject taught in real time to a scheduled timetable, is it taught by a named specialist teacher, is that teacher employed by the school or by the online partner, and who supervises the student on campus during lessons and study periods?
• Ask which post-16 courses are taught in person by the school's own staff. On the schools' own published material this is a short list — ISS states its BTEC Level 3 courses in Travel & Tourism and Sport are fully taught at ISS by its own full-time staff, and Windfield's French Lycée route to the Baccalauréat discloses no remote partner. If in-person teaching matters to your family, start there and confirm in writing.
• Ask whether the year group your child needs actually runs this year. Island cohorts are small, and a stage can appear on a website while the class itself is not staffed or not filled. Ask how many children are currently in that specific year group.
• Drive the school run at 07:30, not at midday. Samui is a ring island served by one main road; the Chaweng and Lamai stretches back up badly at school and commuting times, and straight-line distance on a map is close to meaningless.
• Ask what the school bus actually covers. Provision varies enormously here -- one school advertises transport across the island, another describes its service as limited, and some run none at all. The bus catchment quietly decides which neighbourhoods are realistic for you.
• Ask which exam board each subject sits with, and where the examinations are physically taken. Several Samui schools hold authorisations from more than one board, and island logistics matter for exam sessions.
• Request the school's own current fee schedule in writing, including registration, deposit, uniform, bus, lunch and trips. We do not publish per-school fees because they change annually.
