Overview

Ban Tai runs along Koh Samui's north-west coast between Nathon and Maenam, a quiet residential area with a long, gently shelving beach and views across to Koh Phangan. It has kept a local, low-rise character - Thai homes, small resorts, beachfront restaurants and coconut groves rather than malls or nightlife - and offers some of the better rental value on the island.

The pace here suits families, retirees and long-stay renters who want a calm base and are happy to drive for shopping and services. Nathon town and its ferry pier are a short hop west, and Maenam and Bophut are close to the east. Rentals are mostly houses, small villas and modest condos, with prices sitting below Chaweng and Bophut.

FAQ

Ban Tai — frequently asked questions

Is Ban Tai a good place to live in Koh Samui?

It suits people who want a quiet, affordable beach base with a local feel. Ban Tai sits on the calm north coast between Nathon and Maenam, with a long swimmable beach and rents below the east-coast towns. The trade-off is little nightlife or shopping nearby, so you will drive for most services.

How much is rent in Ban Tai?

Ban Tai is one of the better-value beach areas on Samui. Indicatively, studios run about THB 7,000-13,000 a month, one-bedrooms THB 10,000-20,000 and two-bedrooms THB 20,000-40,000, with houses and pool villas higher. Stock is house-heavy, so modern condos are limited.

Where is Ban Tai on Koh Samui?

Ban Tai is on the north-west coast, between Nathon town to the west and Maenam to the east. It is roughly 10-15 minutes from the Nathon ferry pier and about 25-30 minutes from the airport and Chaweng on the east side of the island.
