Nakhon Si Thammarat is not a two-university province, and almost none of its higher education is in the city. Walailak sits a district to the north, Rajamangala Srivijaya teaches on three separate sites, the two national Buddhist universities each hold a campus here, and the private degree college is away in Thung Song. Here is where every one of them actually is.
In Bangkok or Chiang Mai, "near the university" narrows a housing search to a few streets. In Nakhon Si Thammarat it barely narrows it to a district. The province's higher-education sites are scattered from the Gulf coast at Khanom, at the northern tip, to inland Thung Yai in the south-west — most of the length of the province between the two extremes, with the old town roughly in the middle. Three sites are inside Mueang district, though only the nursing college stands in Nai Mueang, the old-town subdistrict itself; the rest need a vehicle, and the honest advice for anyone relocating for study or academic work is to pick the campus first and the neighbourhood second.
Two of these sites also run their own accommodation. Walailak is residential by design, with housing for students and staff on the campus itself, and RMUTSV's Sai Yai area operates a student dormitory department. If you are househunting around either, you are competing with — and priced against — that on-campus supply.
The provincial capital. Three sites here — but only the nursing college is in Nai Mueang, the old-town subdistrict itself; the other two are elsewhere in the district and still need wheels.
The next district north of the city. Walailak's residential campus is here, and it is the province's single largest concentration of students and staff.
Immediately south of the city on the Ron Phibun and Thung Song roads. Commutable from Mueang, which most of the province's campuses are not.
The province's railway junction town in the south-west, with four working stations. The most rail-reachable higher education in Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Deep inland in the south-west. Rural agricultural country, and housing here is village and small-town stock.
The Gulf coast at the far northern tip of the province, nearer the Samui ferry corridor than the provincial capital.
Counted: degree-awarding institutions with a teaching site inside Nakhon Si Thammarat province, including campuses and constituent colleges of national universities headquartered elsewhere. Each card says plainly which it is, because a campus of Ramkhamhaeng or Rajamangala Srivijaya is not the same thing as a university of its own, and telling a reader otherwise would misdescribe what they are moving for.
Not counted: Thailand's vocational colleges, which award the certificate and higher-certificate qualifications (ปวช. and ปวส.) rather than degrees. The province has several, and at least one of them shares a name and a road with a degree-granting college in Thung Song — a collision we flag on the Southern College of Technology page rather than quietly merging the two.
All teaching at these institutions is in Thai unless a specific programme says otherwise; Walailak is the only one here with international-facing undergraduate entry, through its International College of Dentistry, School of Allied Health Sciences and Akkhraratchakumari Veterinary College. If English-medium study is the requirement rather than a preference, confirm the language of instruction with the institution before committing to a lease.
Primary and official sources are cited above. Government rules, fees and procedures in Thailand change over time and vary by office; always confirm current requirements with the relevant authority before relying on them. BAANLYY never takes paid placement in editorial content.
