No degree-granting university or college is physically located on Koh Phangan. Families and students relocating here for the long term look to Suratthani Rajabhat University on the Surat Thani mainland, or to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the larger southern cities for full campus programs. On the island itself, two genuine non-degree schools -- Wisdom College Tutorial and Vocational School and "C&M" Koh Phangan Vocational School -- offer GED and vocational/ED-visa courses. We keep those two categories clearly separate below.
Suratthani Rajabhat University (SRU) is a public university whose main campus sits about 15 km outside Surat Thani town, on the Gulf of Thailand mainland -- the same province that Koh Phangan belongs to, reached from the island by ferry to the mainland (commonly via Koh Samui or the Donsak pier) and then by road. SRU runs eight faculties from its main campus and, notably for this island group, also operates an International School of Tourism on neighbouring Koh Samui in partnership with hotels and airlines -- the closest a full-university program gets to Koh Phangan itself, though still on a different island.
Anyone relocating to Koh Phangan for university-level study, or planning around a family member's enrollment, should expect a ferry-plus-road or ferry-plus-flight commute to Surat Thani, Koh Samui's tourism school, or further afield to Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Songkhla -- not a campus on the island.
Neither of the following grants a university degree. Both are legitimate, verifiable schools on the island, and both are commonly used by long-stay foreigners for an Education (ED) visa -- but an ED visa here supports enrollment in a vocational or non-formal course, not a bachelor's program.
A non-formal school for international children and teens that prepares older students for the GED (a US high-school-equivalency credential, not a university degree) alongside IELTS tutoring.
Official site →Offers short vocational courses in Thai language, English language, Muay Thai, Thai cooking and traditional Thai massage. ED-visa support applies only to the longer (3-month-plus) course options, not every class.
