The one-line version

Pattaya’s main international-standard hospitalsBangkok Hospital Pattaya (JCI-accredited, BDMS flagship), Pattaya International, Pattaya Memorial and Samitivej Sriracha — are good, English-friendly and used to foreigners, with most central and north Pattaya addresses a 10–20 minute drive from good care. Pick a primary hospital early based on proximity, your insurer’s cashless network and the specialist you need, save 1669 for emergencies, and check the drive time before you choose where to live.

01

Why a hospital directory belongs in a property guide

Pattaya’s expat and retiree population is one of the largest in Thailand, and healthcare access is consistently near the top of the list when people choose where to settle. The good news: Pattaya has genuine international-standard options, led by a JCI-accredited BDMS-group hospital, so most residents never need to travel to Bangkok for routine or even many specialist needs. Read this as a directory first, then weigh drive time against the neighbourhoods and homes you’re considering.

02

The major hospitals foreigners use

A few names come up again and again among Pattaya’s foreign residents. Each is used to treating international patients, with English-speaking staff:

Bangkok Hospital PattayaSoi Bangkok Hospital, off Sukhumvit near Pattaya Klang

The Eastern Seaboard's flagship private hospital, part of the large nationwide Bangkok Hospital (BDMS) network and operating since 1990. It is JCI-accredited — the international gold-standard for hospital quality and patient safety — and runs a dedicated international department offering airport-style pick-up, accommodation help, insurance liaison, immigration assistance and interpretation in around 20 languages. It is the default choice for foreigners needing serious specialist care, surgery or emergency treatment in Pattaya, and tends to sit at the premium end on price.

Pattaya International HospitalSoi Pattaya 4 (Soi Central Pattaya), central Pattaya

A private, mid-sized hospital despite its name sometimes being mistaken for a government facility. Popular with long-stay expats for routine care and everyday procedures, with strong general practice and internal medicine departments. It is generally less crowded than Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and offers a solid balance of quality, English-speaking staff and affordability for day-to-day health needs.

Pattaya Memorial HospitalCentral Pattaya, near Central Pattaya Beach Road

A well-established private hospital known for a good balance between quality and cost. Services include emergency care, surgery, diagnostic imaging and specialist consultations, with English-speaking doctors and nurses trained internationally. It has a particularly strong reputation locally for cardiology, orthopedics and general surgery.

Samitivej Sriracha Hospital (Bangkok Hospital Sriracha)Sriracha, roughly 30–40 minutes north of Pattaya

A reputable private hospital in nearby Sriracha, often used by expats living in northern Pattaya, Jomtien-adjacent areas or those working with Eastern Seaboard industrial employers. English-speaking doctors are available and pricing is often more cost-effective than central Pattaya options — though patients needing complex or highly specialist care are sometimes transferred to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

05

What care actually costs

By Western standards, outpatient and routine care at Pattaya’s private hospitals is generally affordable — a consultation, tests and medication in one visit without the bill shock many foreigners expect. Costs climb quickly for inpatient stays, surgery and emergencies at the premium facilities like Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, so insurance matters more than self-paying; Pattaya International and Pattaya Memorial are often noted for good value on everyday care by comparison. We deliberately don’t publish specific prices: they vary between hospitals and change over time. Ask the international department for a written quote, confirm what your insurer covers, and keep itemised receipts for any claim.

06

Emergencies

Save these before you need them
  • 1669 — national emergency medical services / ambulance
  • 191 — police
  • 1155 — Tourist Police (English-speaking, help for foreigners)

In a serious emergency many residents also call their chosen private hospital directly, since Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and the other larger facilities run their own ambulance and emergency response services and can dispatch a team that already knows your records. Save your primary hospital’s main and ambulance numbers and keep your insurance card on your phone. Confirm all emergency numbers locally when you arrive, as services and numbers can change.

07

Where these hospitals sit — and living near them

Central, North & South Pattaya, plus Sriracha to the north
  • Central & North Pattaya — Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, Pattaya International and Pattaya Memorial all sit within or close to central Pattaya, putting most popular expat addresses within a short drive.
  • Jomtien & Na Jomtien (south) — a slightly longer drive to central-Pattaya hospitals, typically 20–30 minutes depending on traffic on Thepprasit and Sukhumvit Road.
  • North Pattaya & Naklua — closer to both central Pattaya hospitals and, further north, Samitivej Sriracha.
  • Sriracha & industrial-belt areas — residents here often use Samitivej Sriracha as their nearer option, with Bangkok Hospital Pattaya as backup for complex cases.

08

How to choose your primary hospital

A simple checklist
  • Proximity — which good hospital is genuinely quickest from home in traffic and in an emergency?
  • Insurance network — which one does your insurer settle with cashless?
  • Specialists you need — routine family care, or a specific specialty like cardiology or orthopedics that may point to a particular hospital?
  • Comfort & price — premium JCI-accredited flagship vs a smaller, more affordable hospital — both treat foreigners well, the feel and cost differ
  • Backup — know a second hospital too, in case your first is on the wrong side of the city when you need it

Frequently asked

Which are the main international hospitals in Pattaya? The names expats mention most are Bangkok Hospital Pattaya (the JCI-accredited BDMS flagship), Pattaya International Hospital on Soi Pattaya 4, Pattaya Memorial Hospital in central Pattaya, and Samitivej Sriracha Hospital a short drive north in Sriracha. All are used to treating foreign patients, with English-speaking staff and international-patient support, though they differ in size, specialty depth and price.
Is Bangkok Hospital Pattaya JCI-accredited?Yes. Bangkok Hospital Pattaya holds Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, the internationally recognised gold standard for hospital quality and patient safety, and has operated on the Eastern Seaboard since 1990 as part of the large nationwide Bangkok Hospital (BDMS) group. It is generally the first choice for serious specialist care, surgery or emergencies among Pattaya's foreign community, and sits at the premium end on price — which is exactly why insurance matters.
Do Pattaya hospitals work directly with my insurance? The major private hospitals, especially Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, can bill many international insurers directly (cashless), so you show a card and the hospital settles with your insurer instead of paying up front and claiming back. Whether that works for you depends on your specific policy and the hospital's agreements, so confirm with both your insurer and the hospital's international department before you need treatment — and keep itemised receipts in case you do have to claim.
How much does treatment in Pattaya cost?By Western standards, outpatient and routine care at Pattaya's private hospitals is generally affordable, though costs climb sharply for inpatient stays, surgery and emergencies at the premium facilities like Bangkok Hospital Pattaya — which is why insurance matters more than self-paying. Mid-sized hospitals like Pattaya International and Pattaya Memorial are often noted for offering good value on everyday care. We deliberately don't publish exact prices: they vary between hospitals and change over time, so always ask the hospital's international department for a written quote.
Does it matter where in Pattaya I live?Somewhat. Central Pattaya and North Pattaya sit close to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, Pattaya International and Pattaya Memorial, so most popular expat areas are within a 10–20 minute drive of good care in normal traffic. Residents further south in Jomtien or Na Jomtien have a slightly longer drive to central-Pattaya hospitals, though it's rarely more than 20–30 minutes. Those in northern Pattaya or Sriracha-adjacent areas sometimes use Samitivej Sriracha as their nearer option. Check the drive time from any home you're considering before you sign a lease.
What is the emergency number in Thailand? For medical emergencies and ambulances the national number is 1669. For police dial 191, and 1155 reaches the Tourist Police, who speak English and assist foreigners. In a serious emergency many residents also call their chosen private hospital directly, since Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and the other larger facilities run their own ambulance and emergency response services. Confirm these numbers locally on arrival, as services can change.
Is Pattaya healthcare as good as Bangkok's?Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, as a JCI-accredited member of the BDMS network, handles the large majority of routine and specialist needs to an international standard without needing to travel. For the rarest or most complex specialist cases, the deepest concentration of specialists remains in Bangkok, a little over an hour away by road, and Pattaya's hospitals can refer or transfer patients there when needed. For day-to-day care and most emergencies, Pattaya residents are well covered locally.
