Public university · founded 1934 · San Sai District
Maejo University traces its history to 1934, when the Northern Agricultural Teachers Training School was founded in Chiang Mai to extend agricultural education into northern Thailand -- making it the country's oldest agricultural education institution. The school was reorganised as a Vocational School in 1948, became a College in 1958, was reorganised again as a degree-granting institution in 1975, and was finally elevated to full university status on 12 November 1996 under its current name, Maejo University.
The main campus sits in San Sai District, north of central Chiang Mai, and remains anchored in agriculture, forestry and related life sciences while having broadened into a wider range of faculties over the decades, including business, engineering, science and international programs.
