Overview

Chiang Rai International School opened in 2010 as the first international school in the city and remains, of Chiang Rai's three international schools, the only one offering both day and boarding places on a purpose-built campus. The 11-rai (roughly 4.5-hectare) site sits in the semi-rural Rimkok sub-district, about 3km north of the city centre, an area already popular with longer-term expat residents. CRIS runs a complete Kindergarten-through-Grade-12 pathway for ages 3–18 — the only school in Chiang Rai that can take a child from Early Years to graduation without switching schools. BAANLYY is not affiliated with CRIS and takes no paid placement in this guide; confirm all figures directly with the school.

Curriculum & facilities

CRIS follows an American-style curriculum built on Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for science, and AERO standards for social studies, supplemented by Thai language and culture, Chinese, ICT and elective subjects. Boarding is available with separate accommodation for boys and girls, and the campus includes a purpose-built short-game golfing area with an after-school golf programme, plus a partnership with the nearby Happy City Golf & Resort for students who want to develop their game further.

04

Location & getting there

The campus sits in Rimkok, a quieter riverside sub-district along the Kok River roughly 3km north of central Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai has no rail or metro system, so most families drive, arrange a school transfer or use the boarding option — check CRIS's current transport arrangements before choosing a home if you plan to commute daily.

FAQ

Is CRIS the oldest international school in Chiang Rai?

Yes — Chiang Rai International School opened in 2010 and was the first international school established in the city, and remains the only one of Chiang Rai's three international schools offering both day and boarding places.

What curriculum does CRIS follow?

CRIS uses an American-style curriculum built on Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for science, and AERO standards for social studies, alongside Thai language and culture, Chinese, ICT and elective subjects, across a complete Kindergarten-to-Grade-12 pathway for ages 3–18.

How much are CRIS fees?

As a 2026 guide range published on the school's own Chiang Rai international-schools comparison: roughly THB 128,400/year at Kindergarten, rising through THB 166,800 (Grades 1–3), THB 192,600 (Grades 4–6) and THB 217,400 (Grades 7–9) to about THB 241,200/year in Grades 10–12, plus a one-time THB 5,000 application fee and THB 50,000 entrance/enrolment fee. Always confirm the current schedule directly with the school.

Where is CRIS located, and does it offer boarding?

The campus sits on an 11-rai (about 4.5-hectare) purpose-built site in the semi-rural Rimkok sub-district, roughly 3km north of central Chiang Rai. CRIS offers boarding with separate accommodation for boys and girls, making it a practical option for families based elsewhere in northern Thailand who want a K-12 international campus without relocating to the city full-time.
