How to stay in shape on Elephant Island: Muay Thai training camps, Koh Chang Gym's weights-and-cardio setup, resort fitness centers and where to find each by beach area — plus what it all costs.
Koh Chang punches above its size for Muay Thai, with three established camps in Koh Chang Muay Thai Club, Soeren Tor Chairat Koh Chang and Koh Chang Sports Arena, plus a genuine standalone weights-and-cardio gym in Klong Prao and a handful of resort fitness centers that sell day passes. This guide covers the main ways to train, the best areas for each, and what it costs — alongside our areas guide and getting-around guide.
Koh Chang has more Muay Thai gyms than most Gulf-coast islands its size. Koh Chang Muay Thai Club, in the plaza opposite Grand View Resort at the southern end of White Sand Beach, runs daily group and private sessions plus a fight-night stadium next door. Soeren Tor Chairat Koh Chang trains out of two locations — a small gym on the road down to Santhiya Tree Resort in Klong Prao, and a second by the entrance to Privilege Resort in Pearl Beach. Koh Chang Sports Arena, behind the Kai Bae food-court street that runs down from Morgans, adds its own Monday and Friday fight-night stadium. Hills Training Camp (White Sand Beach), Ban Muaythai by Saeng (Pearl Beach) and Erawan (Bailan Beach) round out the island's options. Group sessions run around THB 500 an hour, private tuition THB 1,200-1,500 for 90 minutes to two hours, with monthly packages from roughly THB 12,000-30,000.
Koh Chang Gym in Klong Prao, on the main road opposite Klong Prao Resort, is the island's main conventional gym — treadmills, elliptical trainers, a cable crossover station, leg press, chest press and free weights, open daily from 9am to 8pm. P.Joon Gym (also listed locally as BB Gym), an open-air setup with a mix of cardio and strength machines, is the smaller alternative — local listings place it near both Kai Bae and Khlong Prao, so call ahead to confirm its current location before a visit.
Sol Beach Koh Chang in Klong Prao runs an open-air oceanfront gym with a day pass (around THB 300) that includes the sauna and ice bath, plus oceanfront yoga sessions. KC Grande Resort on White Sand Beach pairs a standard fitness room with a dedicated yoga & boxing studio. Kacha Resort & Spa and SYLVAN Koh Chang also maintain guest fitness facilities. Day-pass access, pricing and hours vary by resort and season, so confirm directly before turning up.
Koh Chang doesn't yet have the dedicated standalone yoga-studio scene you'll find on Koh Phangan or Koh Lanta — most yoga here runs through resorts, led by Sol Beach's oceanfront sessions and KC Grande Resort's yoga & boxing studio, or as an add-on at the island's Muay Thai camps. Confirm current class schedules directly with each resort, since offerings shift with the season.
The island's main tourist strip carries Koh Chang Muay Thai Club and its fight-night stadium at the southern end near Grand View Resort, Hills Training Camp, and KC Grande Resort's fitness room and yoga & boxing studio — the most complete training base if you want a Muay Thai camp and a conventional gym within walking distance.
Home to Koh Chang Gym, the island's fullest weights-and-cardio setup, Soeren Tor Chairat's original Muay Thai gym on the road to Santhiya Tree Resort, and Sol Beach's open-air oceanfront gym and yoga sessions — the best base for anyone who wants a conventional gym floor over a martial-arts camp.
Koh Chang Sports Arena sits behind the food-court street running down from Morgans, with its own Monday and Friday fight-night stadium, and P.Joon/BB Gym's open-air machines cover casual training nearby.
Soeren Tor Chairat's second branch by the Privilege Resort entrance and Ban Muaythai by Saeng both train out of Pearl Beach, with Erawan gym further along in Bailan Beach — a quieter alternative to the White Sand Beach and Kai Bae camps.
Koh Chang's backpacker hub has little dedicated gym infrastructure of its own — residents here typically scooter north to Kai Bae or Klong Prao for a proper gym floor or a Muay Thai session.
Muay Thai group sessions run around THB 500 an hour, with private tuition at THB 1,200-1,500 for 90 minutes to two hours and monthly training packages from roughly THB 12,000-30,000 depending on the camp and session type. Standalone gyms and resort fitness centers are generally pay-as-you-go, with Sol Beach's day pass (around THB 300, including sauna and ice bath) a useful benchmark for resort access.
Koh Chang Muay Thai Club runs its stadium next to the White Sand Beach gym on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 20:00 (around THB 900 per person, kids half price). Koh Chang Sports Arena in Kai Bae runs fight nights Monday and Friday at 20:00 (THB 1,200 tiered seating, THB 1,500 ringside, kids half price) — both include tiered seating, an MC and drinks and snacks for sale.
Koh Chang is hot and humid year-round, so most Muay Thai pad sessions and gym sessions are best scheduled early morning or early evening to avoid the midday heat. The island's low season (roughly May-October) brings heavier rain and thinner class schedules at some camps, so confirm timetables in advance if you're planning a training trip outside the November-April high season.
Koh Chang has no public transport network beyond songthaews on the main beach road, so a rented scooter is the default way to reach gyms spread across White Sand Beach, Klong Prao, Kai Bae, Pearl Beach and Bailan — see our getting-around guide for rental rates and road-safety notes.
Yes. Koh Chang Muay Thai Club (White Sand Beach), Soeren Tor Chairat Koh Chang (Klong Prao and Pearl Beach) and Koh Chang Sports Arena (Kai Bae) are the island's three main camps, with Hills Training Camp, Ban Muaythai by Saeng and Erawan adding further options. Group sessions run around THB 500 an hour, with private tuition and monthly packages also available.
Klong Prao is the best base for a conventional weights-and-cardio gym, home to Koh Chang Gym and Sol Beach's open-air oceanfront gym. White Sand Beach and Kai Bae are the strongest bases if you want a Muay Thai camp — Koh Chang Muay Thai Club and Koh Chang Sports Arena both run their own fight-night stadiums.
Muay Thai group sessions run around THB 500 an hour, private tuition THB 1,200-1,500 for 90 minutes to two hours, and monthly training packages from roughly THB 12,000-30,000. Resort gym day passes, such as Sol Beach's, run around THB 300 including sauna and ice bath access.
Some do. Sol Beach Koh Chang in Klong Prao sells a day pass (around THB 300) covering its open-air gym, sauna and ice bath. KC Grande Resort, Kacha Resort & Spa and SYLVAN Koh Chang also run guest fitness facilities, though day-pass availability and pricing vary by resort and season — confirm directly before visiting.
Not yet on the scale of Koh Phangan or Koh Lanta. Most yoga on the island runs through resorts — Sol Beach's oceanfront sessions and KC Grande Resort's yoga & boxing studio are the main options — or as an add-on at the island's Muay Thai camps.
