Overview

Koh Lanta (Lanta Yai) is the province's standout long-stay island: a string of west-facing beaches — Long Beach (Phra Ae), Klong Khong, Klong Nin and secluded Kantiang Bay — linked by one coast road, with the atmospheric Old Town on the east side. It has quietly become one of Thailand's favourite digital-nomad bases, with co-working spaces, cafes, a settled international community and a season of markets, yoga and beach bars.

It is an island, so life is seasonal and slower: many businesses run November to April and wind down or close in the green season, and you reach the mainland by bridge to Lanta Noi and a short car ferry (a second bridge is in progress). For renters who want beach life, community and lower costs — and who don't need a big hospital or international school on the doorstep — Lanta is hard to beat.

Rental & sale pricing

Indicative long-term monthly rents in Koh Lanta, by unit size. Ranges reflect the spread from older or smaller stock to new, high-spec properties — short-term holiday rates are higher, especially in the November–March high season. Verify current asking prices on individual listings.

UnitMonthly rent (THB)
Studio / bungalow฿7,000฿14,000
1 bedroom฿10,000฿20,000
2 bedroom฿18,000฿35,000
Villa / sea-view฿30,000฿70,000

Sale stock is villas, small beachfront resorts and land, mostly leasehold or Thai-company held; foreign condo title is limited, so most long-stayers rent — which is plentiful and good value outside high season.

Getting around

Connections

Krabi International Airport (KBV) (~2–2.5 hr via road + ferry) · Bridge to Lanta Noi + car ferry (mainland link) · Minivan & boat transfers (to Krabi, Ao Nang, Phi Phi) · Scooter / car hire (the island runs on scooters)

The island is a single coast road, so a scooter or car is the way to get around. Reaching the mainland means the bridge to Lanta Noi and a short car ferry; allow about two to two-and-a-half hours to Krabi airport. High-season boats also run to Phi Phi and Ao Nang.

FAQ

Koh Lanta — frequently asked questions

Is Koh Lanta good for digital nomads?

Yes — it is one of Thailand's established nomad islands, with co-working spaces, reliable cafes, fibre and 4G/5G in the main areas, and a friendly international community, especially in the November–April high season.

How much does it cost to rent long-term on Koh Lanta?

Indicatively around THB 10,000–20,000 for a one-bed and THB 18,000–35,000 for a two-bed, with bungalows from about THB 7,000 and sea-view villas THB 30,000–70,000+. Rates are much lower outside high season, when long leases are easiest to negotiate.

How do you get to Koh Lanta?

By road from Krabi to a bridge onto Lanta Noi, then a short car ferry to Lanta Yai — roughly two to two-and-a-half hours from Krabi airport. High-season speedboats also connect Ao Nang and Phi Phi. A second bridge is under construction to remove the ferry.

What are the downsides of living on Koh Lanta?

It is seasonal — many businesses close in the green season — and island logistics add time. There is no large hospital or international school on-island, so serious healthcare and schooling point to Krabi Town or Phuket.
