Nakhon Si Thammarat City Municipality (Thesaban Nakhon Nakhon Si Thammarat)
Nakhon Si Thammarat City Municipality (Thesaban Nakhon Nakhon Si Thammarat) is the city's local government, covering Nai Mueang, Tha Wang and Klang sub-districts plus parts of several neighbouring ones -- about 22.56 square kilometres in total, confirmed via the municipality's own official site. It traces back to a sukhaphiban (sanitary district) established on 13 August 1910, and was elevated to full city-municipality (thesaban nakhon) status on 8 October 1994.
The municipality handles the everyday functions residents actually deal with day to day: waste collection and street cleaning, public markets, drainage and public health, civil registration matters routed through it, and urban planning and construction permitting within city limits. Its current building, on Ratchadamnoen Road, replaced an earlier wooden structure known as "Manila House" (built 1939) after the 1962 storm damaged it; the present building opened on 10 December 1964. The municipality's emblem depicts the twin royal guardian figures of Phra Borom That Chedi, the city's founding landmark.
