Chiang Mai's riverside-and-night-bazaar strip — hotels, riverfront condos and the Ping River, a short walk from the Old City's east gate.
Chang Klan runs along the east side of the Old City down to the Ping River and is anchored by the famous Chiang Mai Night Bazaar. It is the city's most hotel-dense, tourist-facing strip, which also makes it one of the better-served areas for riverfront condos, dining and nightlife.
Living here puts you between two worlds: walk west and you are at Tha Phae Gate and the Old City; walk east and you reach the Ping River, the Saturday riverside scene and Wat Ket's quiet lanes. Condo supply is better than the Old City thanks to looser height limits along Chang Klan and Charoen Prathet roads.
The trade-offs are night-bazaar crowds, traffic and a commercial feel on the main roads. Pick a soi toward the river, though, and you get a central, well-connected base with water views and an easy walk into the historic core.

Chang Klan and the Charoen Prathet riverfront hold some of central Chiang Mai's more investable condo stock, supported by hotel-grade tourist demand and river views. Riverside units command a premium; buyers weigh short-let potential against the area's tourist-season rhythm.

It is home to the Chiang Mai Night Bazaar and the city's main hotel and riverside strip, running from the east side of the Old City down to the Ping River. It is central, lively and well supplied with condos, dining and nightlife.
Indicative long-term rents run roughly THB 7,000–13,000 for a studio, THB 10,000–20,000 for a one-bedroom and THB 25,000–55,000 for a riverside unit with views.
Both. The main strip is tourist-facing and busy, but quieter sois toward the Ping River offer central, walkable living with water views and an easy stroll into the Old City — a strong base for those who want convenience and nightlife.
It borders the Old City's east side — Tha Phae Gate is a short walk — and the airport is about 15 minutes away.
