How far is that, really?

Pick any two BTS, MRT, ARL or monorail stations and get an estimated distance, stop count and travel time — calculated from BAANLYY's own station dataset, not guessed. Free, transparent method, no paid placement.

Estimate a commute

Estimated Commute
RouteDirect — same line (BTS Sukhumvit)
Stops (same line, official numbering)5
Straight-line distance5.7 km
Estimated travel time~10 min
Ride time (at ~35 km/h avg operating speed)~10 min

Estimate only, for planning purposes. Distance is calculated as-the-crow-flies from each station's real coordinates, not the actual rail alignment — since BTS/MRT lines curve and run in grids rather than straight lines, actual travel time is typically somewhat longer than this estimate. Travel time uses BTS Skytrain's publicly cited average operating speed of approximately 35 km/h, plus roughly 7 minutes per interchange for the platform-to-platform walk (typical range 5-10 minutes and varies by station). Same-line stop counts use each line's own official station numbering and are only shown when both stations share the same numbering series (some lines pivot to a second series partway along, e.g. BTS Sukhumvit's N-series and E-series meeting at Siam — stop counts across that kind of pivot aren't shown rather than risk an inexact figure). For exact live routing and current fares, use the BTS, MRT or Google Maps trip planner.

How this calculator works

This isn't a black box: distance comes from each station's real coordinates in BAANLYY's transit dataset (a straight-line, "as-the-crow-flies" calculation), travel time is derived from BTS Skytrain's publicly cited average operating speed of approximately 35 km/h, and same-line stop counts use each line's own official station numbering. Interchange routing checks every documented connection point between BTS, MRT, the Airport Rail Link and the monorail lines in our dataset — it will tell you plainly when a route needs more changes than the data can confidently resolve, rather than guess.

Because it's a straight-line distance rather than the actual curving rail alignment, the time estimate is usually a reasonable floor — real travel time is often somewhat longer. Use this to compare areas and stations quickly (especially while browsing BAANLYY listings), then confirm exact live times with the BTS, MRT or Google Maps trip planner before you rely on a schedule.

Frequently asked

How does this commute calculator estimate travel time?It uses BAANLYY's own BTS/MRT/ARL station dataset — real station coordinates, official line codes and documented interchange points, the same data behind our per-station pages. Distance between two stations is calculated as-the-crow-flies from their real coordinates (a haversine calculation), then converted to an estimated ride time using BTS Skytrain's publicly cited average operating speed of approximately 35 km/h. If a route needs an interchange, we add roughly 7 minutes per change for the platform-to-platform walk, a typical range cited for Bangkok's interchange stations.
Why is the estimate a straight-line distance rather than the actual rail route?Because BAANLYY doesn't fabricate a routing engine's worth of track-geometry data it doesn't have verified. Straight-line distance is real and computable from each station's actual coordinates; guessing at exact curve-by-curve rail distance would risk inventing a number we can't stand behind. In practice this means our estimate is usually a reasonable floor — actual travel time is often somewhat longer, since rail lines curve and run in grids rather than straight lines. For an exact, live-routed time, use the BTS, MRT or Google Maps trip planner.
Does it show the exact number of stops? When both stations are on the same line and share the same official numbering series, yes — we use each line's real station codes (e.g., BTS Sukhumvit's N-series or E-series) to count stops exactly. A few lines pivot to a second numbering series partway along (Sukhumvit's N-series and E-series meet at Siam, for example); we don't show a stop count across that kind of pivot rather than risk an inexact figure, and rely on the distance/time estimate instead.
How does it figure out which interchange to use for cross-line trips? It searches BAANLYY's station dataset for every documented interchange point between BTS, MRT, ARL and the monorail lines, then finds the shortest chain of lines connecting your start and end station (up to 3 changes). If a route needs more than 3 documented interchanges, or the dataset doesn't yet document a connection, we say so explicitly rather than guess at a route.
Is this a replacement for Google Maps or the BTS/MRT apps?No — treat it as a fast planning estimate when you're comparing areas or stations (for example, while browsing BAANLYY listings), not a live, minute-accurate trip planner. It doesn't account for train frequency, time of day, walking time to/from the station entrance, or service disruptions. For an exact departure time and platform-level routing, use an official app.

Estimate only, for planning purposes — not a live routing service. Distance is calculated as-the-crow-flies from real station coordinates, not the actual rail alignment; travel time uses a publicly cited average BTS operating speed plus a typical interchange transfer allowance. It does not account for train frequency, time of day, walking time to/from station entrances, or service disruptions.
