Agents who help foreigners apply for, extend and convert Thai visas — and how to tell a legitimate one from a risky shortcut.

01What this is & why you'd need it
A reputable visa agent handles the paperwork, bank-letter logistics and immigration-office queueing for Thai visa applications, extensions and 90-day reports. Foreigners use them to save time and avoid mistakes on Non-O, retirement, DTV, LTR, Elite and Education visas. The honest ones simplify a legitimate process; the dishonest ones sell 'guaranteed' approvals that rely on faked documents — which can get you blacklisted.
02What to look for
- A physical office and a track record you can verify, not just a chat account
- Clear, itemised fees in writing (their service fee vs. official government fees, separately)
- Willingness to explain exactly which visa class you qualify for and why
- Honesty about what they cannot do — no 'guaranteed approval' language
03Questions to ask before you commit
Q. Which visa am I actually eligible for, and what are the real requirements?
Q. What is your service fee versus the official government fee, line by line?
Q. Do you use my genuine documents only? (The answer must be yes.)
Q. What happens — and what is refunded — if immigration rejects the application?
04Red flags
Walk away if you see…
- 'Guaranteed' approval regardless of your situation
- Asking you to sign blank forms or hand over your passport indefinitely
- Offering fake bank balances, fake work permits or 'seasoned' bank statements
- Cash-only, no receipt, no written scope of work
05What it typically costs
Service fees vary widely by visa type and complexity, charged on top of the official government application fees. Always get the agent fee and the government fee quoted separately and in writing.
06Frequently asked
Do I even need a visa agent? Not always. Simple extensions and 90-day reports can be done yourself. Agents are most useful for complex cases (first-time retirement/Non-O conversions, marriage visas, or when your Thai-language and queueing time is limited). For straightforward cases, our visa center walks you through doing it directly.
Is using an agent legal?Using an agent to prepare and submit genuine paperwork is normal and legal. What is illegal — and dangerous — is paying for fabricated documents or 'arranged' approvals. That can lead to visa cancellation, fines, deportation and blacklisting.
How do I verify an agent is legitimate?Look for a registered company, a real office, written quotes, references from other expats, and transparency about official fees. Be wary of anyone working only through social media with no verifiable footprint.
