On the founding date: The campus dates its founding to 25 February 1998, the day it admitted its first students; the project itself began in 1995 under the earlier name Khon Kaen Interdisciplinary College, Nong Khai Distance Education Centre. Khon Kaen University's Nong Khai Campus is the regional campus of one of Thailand's leading research universities, whose main campus in Khon Kaen was established in 1964. It sits in Nong Kom Koe Subdistrict, Mueang Nong Khai District, a short drive from Nong Khai town and the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge, and it is the only site in the province where a full university degree is taught by the university that awards it.

The campus keeps its own foundation day: 25 February 1998, when the first cohort arrived. Khon Kaen University marked the campus's 26th anniversary in 2024, which is the arithmetic that fixes the year. The project behind it is older -- it began in 1995 as Khon Kaen Interdisciplinary College, Nong Khai Distance Education Centre -- so both 1995 and 1998 appear in circulation, and only one of them is the campus's own answer.

The single-faculty structure the campus runs on today is much more recent than we previously said. Khon Kaen University announcement 635/2563, dated 1 April 2020 and published in the Royal Gazette on 10 July 2020, merged four faculties and the campus office -- the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Business Administration, the Faculty of Integrated Social Sciences, the Faculty of Liberal Arts, and the Nong Khai Campus Office -- into a single new body, the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies. Our earlier text dated that restructuring to 2012, eight years early, and did not mention that the campus's own administrative office was folded in with the faculties.

The academic range that came out of that merger is what gives the campus its character: business and logistics, integrated social sciences, liberal arts, and applied science and engineering under one roof, oriented toward Nong Khai's position as a Greater Mekong Subregion border and trade gateway rather than toward replicating the Khon Kaen campus in miniature.

Notable facts

• Located in Nong Kom Koe Subdistrict, Mueang Nong Khai District, between the town and the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge -- the practical reason a Nong Khai rental search for students clusters on that side of town.
