On the founding date: 1978 is the year usually given for this campus and we have left it in place, but BAANLYY's earlier claim that it was MCU's very first branch campus, founded on a specific day in June, could not be re-confirmed against MCU's own current publications in September 2026, so that claim has been withdrawn rather than repeated.

MCU Nong Khai Campus at a glance

Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University is a royally chartered Buddhist university with its main campus at Wang Noi in Ayutthaya and a nationwide network of regional campuses. Its Nong Khai Campus sits in Khai Buk Wan Subdistrict, Mueang Nong Khai District -- confirmed by the campus's own construction tenders, which name that subdistrict -- and it is the province's deepest degree ladder, running all the way to doctoral level.

The campus publishes its own admissions each year, and the 2026 intake shows the full range: five bachelor's programmes (Buddhist Studies, Education, Liberal Arts, Political Science and Public Administration), a certificate programme, and a graduate school offering master's degrees in Buddhist Studies and in Education plus a doctorate in Buddhist Studies. Our earlier description reduced all of that to 'a graduate studies unit'.

Study here is open to lay students as well as monks, and the campus runs research and outreach bodies of its own, including a Buddhist innovation centre and the Nakhin Buddhist Research Centre, alongside a long-running Mekong-riverside temple documentation project. For a resident, the practical points are that term dates follow the Buddhist calendar -- teaching pauses for Buddhist Lent and observance days -- and that a student hall of residence was tendered for construction in Khai Buk Wan in 2024.
