Rangsit University was founded by Dr. Prasit Ourairat as a private institution, opening in 1986 as Rangsit College on a campus in the Lak Hok sub-district of Mueang Pathum Thani District, just outside Bangkok. Thailand's Ministry of Education upgraded it to full university status in 1990, at which point it took its current name. The main campus today covers roughly 296 rai (about 117 acres) and is fully accredited by Thailand's Office of the Higher Education Commission.
RSU has grown into one of Thailand's largest private universities, offering more than 140 programs across roughly 30 faculties, colleges and institutes -- including a College of Medicine, a Conservatory of Music, and colleges of engineering, biomedical engineering, information technology, communication arts, and tourism and hospitality, among others. It is regularly ranked among Thailand's top private universities and is the only private university rated "very good" for graduate-education quality by Thailand's Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment.
