Phang Nga Technical College at a glance
Phang Nga Technical College dates to 1938 (B.E. 2481), opening the following year as a primary-level carpentry vocational school ("โรงเรียนประถมอาชีพช่างไม้"), and was developed and upgraded to full college status on 1 April 1982 (B.E. 2525). It sits at 326 Phetkasem Road, Thai Chang Subdistrict, Mueang Phang Nga District, under the Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) -- the longest-running educational institution profiled in the province. Its Zone 1 site is a compact 8 rai 3 ngan 76.2 square wa, in town rather than on the outskirts.
A correction BAANLYY is making to its own earlier text: this entry previously placed the college in "Tha Yang Subdistrict". There is no Tha Yang subdistrict in Mueang Phang Nga -- the district's tambon are Thai Chang, Nop Pring, Tham Nam Phut, Bang Toei, Tak Daet, Song Phraek, Thung Kha Ngok, Ko Panyi and Pa Ko -- and the college's own address gives Thai Chang (ท้ายช้าง), the subdistrict covered by Phang Nga town municipality. Tha Yang is a district of Phetchaburi, several provinces north.
PNTC's departments span automotive, machine shop, metal welding, electrical, electronics, construction, accounting, marketing, hospitality, food and nutrition, business computing, information technology and science-based programmes, awarding vocational certificate (ปวช.) and higher vocational certificate (ปวส.) qualifications. It also runs a science-based technology college project (วิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีฐานวิทยาศาสตร์), one of a small national set.
The part most easily missed: PNTC is a constituent college of the Institute of Vocational Education: Southern Region 2 (สถาบันการอาชีวศึกษาภาคใต้ 2), headquartered at 215 Sanam Bin--Mueang Mai Road, Thep Krasattri Subdistrict, Thalang District, Phuket, alongside the technical colleges of Ranong, Phuket, Krabi and Trang, Phuket Vocational College and Trang Industrial and Community Education College. It is the institute, not the college, that confers degrees -- and two Bachelor of Technology (ทล.บ.) continuing programmes are sited on this campus, so bachelor's-level study genuinely happens in Mueang Phang Nga.
