Suan Dusit University, Hua Hin Education Centre at a glance

Suan Dusit's Hua Hin site opened in 2003, in the era when the parent body was still a Rajabhat Institute, and tracked the parent's own 2004 renaming to Rajabhat University status before the institution became simply Suan Dusit University. It sits at 66/156 Phetkasem Road, directly opposite Hua Hin Airport.

It is worth being precise about what it is, because the word campus is used loosely in English-language listings. In Suan Dusit's own estate register the Hua Hin site is a centre (sun kansueksa), not a campus; the university's only campus is Suphanburi, and Lampang, Nakhon Nayok and Trang are centres in the same tier as Hua Hin. The Hua Hin plot is 3 rai 3 ngan 40 sq wa -- roughly 6,200 sq m, about a hectare and a half -- and the land is Treasury Department property allocated for Royal Thai Air Force use, not, as widely repeated, Airports of Thailand land.

Suan Dusit is known nationally for hospitality, tourism, culinary and home-economics education, and the Hua Hin centre extends that into the province's largest tourism town, feeding the hotel and food-service employers along the same stretch of Phetkasem Road.

Notable facts

• Opened 2003; the parent institution's status changed from Rajabhat Institute to Rajabhat University in 2004 and later to Suan Dusit University, and the site's name has followed each time.
• A centre, not a campus, in Suan Dusit's own terminology -- the university's single campus is Suphanburi.
• A small site: 3 rai 3 ngan 40 sq wa, roughly 6,200 sq m, on Treasury Department land allocated to the Royal Thai Air Force. BAANLYY previously repeated the common claim that this is Airports of Thailand land; the university's own estate register does not support it and we have withdrawn it.
• Located at 66/156 Phetkasem Road, opposite Hua Hin Airport -- the same airfield used by the Civil Aviation Training Center's flight school. Telephone 032-522506-10 or 032-523017.
