State vocational college · founded 1938 · 336 Sukhumvit Road km 36, Bang Pu Mai, Mueang Samut Prakan District, Samut Prakan 10280
วิทยาลัยเทคนิคสมุทรปราการ
The oldest continuously operating educational institution in this list is not a university. The college's own history page dates it to 1938, when the Samut Prakan Woodwork School opened at the foot of Mahawong Bridge in Pak Nam sub-district and took thirty pupils out of Prathom 4 into a three-year course. It became the Samut Prakan Trade School in 1960, moved in 1970 to its present 75-rai site at 336 Sukhumvit Road km 36 in Bang Pu Mai, was renamed Samut Prakan Technical School in 1971, began higher-certificate teaching in 1973, and took its present name in 1980.
It matters here because of what happened in 2016: the college opened a bachelor's-level technology programme in automotive technology, run with Mercedes-Benz (Thailand). That degree is conferred by the Institute of Vocational Education Central Region 3, created by ministerial regulation on 13 June 2012 under the Vocational Education Act of 2008, which groups ten colleges across Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao and Samut Prakan -- and Samut Prakan Technical College is its only member in this province. The institute's office is at Nakhon Nayok Technical College in Mueang Nakhon Nayok. The degree is earned here and conferred from there.
The college teaches across industrial trades, business, fine and applied arts, home economics, tourism and hospitality, digital industry and logistics, including aircraft maintenance and rail rolling-stock technology. It also hosts a master's in sustainable industrial management engineering run with Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon's Faculty of Engineering, opened in 2013.
A college of the Office of the Vocational Education Commission, Ministry of Education, and a constituent college of the Institute of Vocational Education Central Region 3 -- which is what confers its degree, and which is seated at Nakhon Nayok Technical College, not in this province.
Address as published by the institution: 336 Sukhumvit Road km 36, Bang Pu Mai, Mueang Samut Prakan District, Samut Prakan 10280.
On the founding date: 1938 (B.E. 2481) is the year the college's own history page gives for the Samut Prakan Woodwork School at the foot of Mahawong Bridge in Pak Nam; the college marked its sixtieth anniversary in 1998, which is consistent.
